Hi

I have just picked up my 2007 100hp and want to use the aux function on the stereo. I have been told I need to get a cable to attach to the back of the HU. Can anyone tell me if this is the correct cable please.

I know i can also get one with an ipod connector rather than a jack but then I couldn't plug my phone in and use that as an mp3 player.

Thank you for your help.

Jon

I've just received one of these in the post. After reading half-a-dozen threads, and checking with the seller, I'm 99.99% certain this is the correct lead (for the bult-in MP3/CD player) in our Panda. Yet to fit it, though, as the other half has taken the car out for the afternoon...! ;)

Great, please let me know how you get on. I read that you can connect it by going through the back of the glove box and avoid removing the HU so I'm going to go out and have a look shortly.

Did you buy from ebay too? If your cable works could you give me a link to the item you bought.

I'm pretty happy with the sound from the standard HU normally I would change it but after tweaking the EQ it's not a bad sound at all.

Although I'm hoping to route my cable the same way (and probably leave it in the glove box), I also bought the HU removal keys, just in case... -- as I'm not the most dextrous of people...! :(

The cable I bought is this one (from the same seller...). I'll let you know how I get on: although it may be a few days -- as the Panda's going in to be serviced on Monday; and my parents-in-law are here tomorrow!

Good luck...! (y)

PS: The HU sounds pretty good to me, too; and my other half has yet to complain! I'm extremely hard of hearing, though: so possibly not the best person to have an opinion on this...!

PPS: I take it you can change to 'aux' on your HU by pressing the CD key twice...? Just checking...! ;)

Yes, I have the aux function on my HU, good piece of info to point out though, thanks. I was surprised at how crude the Bluetooth is but it seems to work OK.

Good luck with your cable, keep us posted.

Enjoy the 'out-laws', think I would be making my excuses & going out to tinker with the car!!

For various reasons, only got round to fitting this, yesterday. Took less than ten minutes... -- but note that you will need someone (e.g. my other half, in this case...) to take the weight of the HU whilst you fiddle with cables. ;)

When I took the thing out, I discovered there was already a green wire going into the yellow connector, which was to be replaced with the new cable/connector. Not so sure what this does (as it fell out of the connector: and I wasn't sure which of the six possible slots it had come from...) -- but leaving it disconnected has, so far, revealed no problems....

To insert the new aux connector, remove the block of three existing connectors; slide the existing yellow one out towards you (if it's there); and slide the new connector into its place. Replace the block of three connectors in the back of the HU. Then curse the fact that your hands are too big, and there is no route into the actual glove box.... :(

So... I just kept threading the new lead down the back (of the HU -- remembering to make sure it goes through the HU cage...), to the left, and eventually it emerged in the passenger footwell, underneath the glove box. At the moment, it's therefore just wombling free: so I may try and rig up a way of fixing it somewhere. However, other half and daughter have headed out for the day -- extremely happy that she can connect her iPhone 4S -- and they don't seem that (in fact, at all) bothered by the slightly jerry-rigged solution.

Of course, don't forget to make sure the HU is pushed back into position, once you've finished. Two clicks of the CD button; and Bob's your mother's brother....

The only other thing I would add is that the volume is a little quiet from both the iPhone and my iPod Classic: so needs turning up to max, there; and then boosting a little on the HU itself. Apart from that, everything is wonderful...! (y)

Hope this covers everything. If anyone needs any further pointers, please yell...! :woot:

Hi

Thanks for the detailed info! Will prove to be very helpfull I'm sure.

I was going to try and remove the glove box and go in 'blind' behind the stereo as someone else suggested it was pretty easy (famous last words!) and then i could possibly pull the lead through there if I make a wee nick in the housing on the way out.

If I can't manage to do it that way then it will be a HU out job. So one quick question, which removal tools do I need? Is it the blade type ones or the pins?

Thanks again :)

I think it'll be easier to remove the HU than the glove box! And -- especially if you have the yellow connector taking up the aux in slot, like I did -- I think "going in blind" could be a very 'brave' decision...! ;)

These pins are what I used; although I believe people have had success with 'modified' coathangers...!

They fit in the two pairs of corresponding holes (shown as tiny circles) on each side of the HU, as shown below:

Good luck...! (y)

Hi

Finally got round to fitting the cable and it took seconds to pop out the HU and then a few minutes to mess with the block connectors. I put the car in 5th gear and was able to rest the HU on there, no need for interfering hands (and opinions) The green wire is still connected to the loose yellow connector and like you I have had no problems with it not connected. As it is still in the block I know which socket it is if you ever need to know.

I have actually run the cable down the dash and pulled off the gearstick gaiter and brought the wire out there then replaced the gaiter, looks OK. I did a bit of playing about putting the lead in different places and decided for me this was the best place. it is very easy to put it in the glove box. First remove the four retaining screws on the glove box with a torx bit and then there is a 5th screw with a bigger torx head inside the glove box at the top in the middle. Remove the passenger airbag switch by placing a flat head screwdriver under the flange and prise it out into the glove box, slowly, it comes out at an angle. Then unclip the white block from the end of the airbag switch and you can remove the glove box. With the HU out you will find a round tunnel type opening to the back left, this feeds through toward the glove box and you will find the wire hanging where the glove box was. Then, in the same place you removed the 5th screw you will be able to feed the wire into the glove box as you put it back in, the hole is very large. remember to feed the airbag wiring back into the glovebox when you replace it. Then the wire is in the glove box and ready to be connected. Easy!

I'm made up now, makes everything so much easier. Something else I found out the other day is that the bluetooth on the phone to radio works as long as the ignition is on regardless if the radio is on or off. Some systems require the radio to be on.

Thanks for this! If you're ever round the back of your HU again, I wouldn't mind knowing where the blasted green wire goes.... The old yellow connector is currently sat in front of me, annoying me...!

By the way: we have a Dualogic... -- but I like your gear-lever trick...! (y)

I will try and have a look over the weekend if I get the time, and if the snow stops!

Hi

I have finally got round to pulling out the HU, sorry for the delay. Hope the picture uploads properly and is of some use :)

Thanks! That's brilliant! When I can be bothered, I shall see if I can work out what it's supposed to do... -- although the HU seems to be functioning fine without it...!

I think it may be an earth but I'm not sure. If you figure it out let me know

Brilliant post! I've just followed this and fitted mine. I'm rubbish at DIY etc but did this in 20 minutes. Fiddly getting the wire through the gear gater but got there in the end. Love the sound quality! Thanks again, great forum with great people.

Hey guys,

Great thread.

I know it's a few years old now, but the links to the cable that is needed are no longer valid.

So I did a search on E-bay using the same title and came up with this:

ebay.co.uk/itm/Fiat-Grande-Punto-Aux-IN-Gold-Plated-Input-Adapter-for-IPOD-MP3-Radio-Keys-/360697360757?hash=item53fb3cf175:g:AUAAAOSw-zxWn~4Q

Is this the correct cable? and will those radio keys do the job?

Many thanks! :)

Hi,

I don't have the car anymore but from memory and refreshing my brain by reading the thread that IS the right cable and 100% the right pins. For £4 what have you got to lose?
