I've just bought some 4" alpine speakers for the back of my punto mk2 as I found a yellow cable on each side of the boot and thought may as well just put some speakers there. When I wire them up there's no sound - using the stock headunit or a newer one. Does anyone know if this is likely to be a dodgy wiring issue or something else? I've never modded anything but I'd be willing to get started (And yeah, i've read that rear speakers are a waste but I've bought them now so I'm gonna put them in anyway)

The connections fit fine so i thought it would be easy.

Unfortunately there were no old ones just the connections. (1 yellow connection on each side and a bigger white blocky connection with lots of wires on one side)

As for the fader, i tried to set it to only rear and there's just no sound - is it likely that the connection is dodgy even though it seems so nicely setup?

So there were no rear speakers when you got the car?

If so, that's probably your problem, the wiring has a fault and the previous owner decided to just take the speakers out (for some odd reason)

Even if the setup is perfect, a fault within the wiring somewhere will make no difference whether you've set it up properly or not.

Your problem could be the connection, or a part of the wiring. Do you have a voltage meter you can test the connection with?

That'll be -- I would guess -- for the built-in sub (if it's on the near-side...): that came with various levels of spec in the Mk2. (Does anyone know if the wiring's included, even if the sub wasn't...?) As Loop says: there's obviously a disconnect, somewhere, between the HU and the rear of the car, though....

Sounds like a previous owner's stripped everything out, at some stage, with a view to upgrading; or simply removed those upgrades before selling the car on.... :(

Alright cheers guys - yeah there were no rear speakers when I got the car, who knows what happened to them.

i'll try test the voltage at some point but if that comes up falsely what's next, put down completely new wiring to the back or is it possible to fix the current wiring?

I'd be tempted to go down the new wiring route: as you don't know what's wrong with the current stuff. With a bit of luck, you'll be able to use the old wires to help you route the new ones! Good luck...! (y)

PS: This guide -- albeit about fitting the Punto's standard subwoofer... -- details getting the wires to the back of the car. May, therefore, be of some use, I hope....

With the existing wires, you may fix one problem and another could arise, if they have a fault somewhere; more often than not, more can appear from the initial problem. New wiring is your best bet and as homeward has said ... try and route new wiring alongside the existing and just remove the old stuff (or snip it, insulate and hide (y))

I appreciate the help and I hate to be a noob but...

I got myself a multimeter - now how do I go about checking the cable?

Turn on your ignition, put both prongs on/inside the yellow connector block. (not on the plastic) and see if the voltage rises

Absolutely nothing unfortunately - time to get stuck in I guess

I've just realised that the cables arent even connected to the iso so they're literally just loose cables. Is there any way of adding them into the iso where they should be?

Yeah I think that's a good idea but - any idea where the cable will likely end. Ie where does the bundle come from to get behind the headunit.

edit: Here are two pictures and to me it looks like the orange wires (for the rear speakers) just disappear when they get to that gray box thing (what is it?).

Hi All, 1st post I believe been a member for a while though. Bought myself a little 51 plate 1.2L punto and noticed it had no rear speakers now I have been given the standard rear speakers and boom box the question is are the wires there in the loom to connect these are do I need to run separate ones?
