I am replacing the standard headunit with a sony minidisk one

My problem there is nothing being displayed on the screen, although there is power getting to it, cause its opening, closing and accepting minidisc

The wiring block on the car differs from the one that came with the head unit, so im thinking that might be the problem

If possible can anyone supply me with pics or a diagram as to what wire should go where

So far i have only identified the earth as being the same  , then the colour of the wires dont match up :(

Can i buy a lead from say halfords or somewhere that will be already wired up correctly?

Many thanks :)

i have an adaptor loom thingy that came with headunit, but that dont match up, will have to go pop down to 'frauds and see what they got :D

i just thought i could swap some leads round, but might be easier to buy a ready made one

after a little bit of a play i have found the continious power, earth and what seems to be the automatic ariel (aut ant)on the fiat wiring block

the switched power is not needed

and the only wire i have left to know what its for is some kind of illumination display or something like that, so that must be it, i think???

memory feed power  , have not seen that on the sony bit or the fiat bit

There's probably 2 power wires from the head unit (continous/memory & mains/switched??), but only one from Fiat (if the stereo works without keys in the ignition). I've not got round to putting my stereo in the Sei yet so I'm not sure what's what back there.

Have you got the right power wire connected up?

The illumination wire is so the HU display fades when you put the lights on.

you right :) , cheers for your help (y)

ok all sorted now :D

after a trip to see my mate at 'frauds and him getting it to work in store, i came home an even more confused man :p

what i needed to do was to attach the red wire to the yellow wire and not have 2 seperate power wires

nothing has caught fire and i havent even blown a fuse, happy days :D

what a difference a decent headunit makes to sound quality :D

I had a bit of a look last night at how I'm going to do things, it looks like most of the interior comes out easy enough to lay all the wires. Will probably take a few days off work to do it as I just don't get time at weekends.

Was it easy enough getting the amp power cable from the battery through the bulk head?

easier than on the punto, i gave up

there is a hole under the battery tray, if you cannot see it when you stick your head under the engine, go inside the car and pull back the carpet that is behind the pedals and the hole is behind the accelorater pedal, you may see a rubber bung that might need taken out

give us a shout if you stuck, my sei was stripped many a time
