got a few questions about audio in my cinq. Recently got a sony CD Player (http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_720841_langId_-1_categoryId_165474)

It is currently wired up with http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...4282_langId_-1_categoryId_165707#BVQAWidgetID

These speakers sound really timid. Have i just set it up wrong? There's no bass at all to them, and for £35 they sound really quiet. Are these speakers supposed to be working with a sub ?

I have got some speakers (not seen them yet, think they're 6") off my brother for free which i am hoping to fix. Will probs have to be a fit in the parcel shelf. What wire would you guys recomend? Would normal copper wire be ok?

And can someone quickly explain the "45W x 4" system? I assume 4 channels handing an RMS of 45W per speaker. Anything above that would need an amp? Sorry for the newbie questions, not done this before though :)

Thanks for any responses!

Paul

the 4x45watt is the maximum power output through each channel RMS will be alot lower then that

you need to amp 6x9s in the parcel shelf and ideally fabricate a better parcel shelf to mount them in

the speakers your brought need amping but they still wont be amazing

if you want decent sound then get yourself some nice component speakers up front amped correctly and a 10 to 12 inch sub in the boot also amped then if you really wanner go for it sound deaden the spare wheel bay and behind the door cards and you have your self a half decent install

im sure we can all help you as much as you need on hear

Are these speakers supposed to sound so bad? They sound like tweeters, there's no sub on them at all. Is it possible they're wired wrong? I'm not looking throw money on an amp as the car won't be with me for long. Just looking for something of a standard audio quality rather than enthusiast.

thanks

no speakers are supposed to sound bad just some are better then others, they could well be wired wrong but your never gonna get them sounding good without an amp im afraid remember you can take your ice with you to your next car

you could get an amp thats up to the job pretty cheap second hand

What sort of powered amp would be suitable? Would a 500W cheap amp be ok with the possibility to add a sub at a later date? Thanks

is that 500w rms or peak

never look at peak rates allays rms as you will very rarely actully get peak ouput

500w rms is more then enough for them speakers and a sub at a later date assuming it is 4 channel

Woah slow down a little.
You will never get bass out of those speakers up front. They are just too small. There size is what a lot of people use for their upper mid range speakers. You will only start to get mid bass on speakers above 5 1/4" even then you need dedicated component speakers I.e seperate mid and tweets so they can do their job properly.
The ones you have will be unlikely to take an amp as they are designed to work from the hu which gives out about 12w rms per channel.

As has been said the best bet on a budget right now would be to build an MDF parcel shelf and get a half decent set of 6x9's and an amp.
