Amp wiring from OEM headunit q's

hi there, popping over from the stilo section, my friend has just bought a grande punto 1.4 16v sporting (in chemical grey, looks quite nice :D)

and he wants to wire up his sub, on the back of the OEM stereo it looks like a standard blaupunkt unit, where you have three blocks for different connectivity, what i want to know is, is there a pre-out to go to an amp readily available or is a line level convertor the only option? also how do you get power cable from engine bay to inside car??

thanks people

cool, cheers for that, i guessed there would be one in the scuttle area, but i didnt wanna pull apart his new car to find nothingness....once i find the gasket, where is it going to come out in the cabin? i know the stilo one comes out in the a-pillar, but in his GP there are airbags in the a-pillar dont wanna dismantle if i can avoid....

comes out behind the glovebox I think, I cant remember, I know I didnt struggle at all doing mine though

to add a pre out you will need a line level converter and connect it to the rear speaker wires, if you open the boot and hunt about behind the trim on the left hand side you should find a white connecter block that is in the cars wiring loom for the factory fit sub option, there is a part in the guides section, its handy if you find this because it has 4 rear speaker wires to connect the converter to as well as a remote wire and even an earth, I used my own earth though because the car one looks a little weedey

I thought the factory sub was on the right of the boot  im gunna look for this now.

they run up the right hand side of the car...

if you look in the grande punto guides section there is a guide for RCA adaptor sub wiring and picture showing you path through bulkhead in the Fog light guide along with the pollen filter replacement guide to get the side panel off to get to back of HU (y)

Open the boot, on the right hand side

it will either be up in the trim (where the boot light is but on the OPPSITE side of the car)

OR

it will be behind the carpet like covering on the wheel arch of the righ hand side of the boot, mine has a little perforation in this wheel arch cover that obviously pops out to let the plug come through if the sub is fitted

Any aftermarket sub amp will need a thicker power cable than the OEM one. (y)

c'mon stu gimmie more credit than that :p lol

just want to find it to avoid running RCA's the length of the car and having to piggyback the wiring at the back of the HU...

and i know
- no daisy chain earths
- upgrade big three
- no big loops in power cable
- sanded proper earths in the wheel well
- eliminate all racoons B4 they cause problems....
im well schooled (mainly by this forum) (y)

just a shame he insists on putting this "the loudest.com" sub in the boot, sure its loud...but not a fan of the "quality", i think it should have stayed in the mk1 punto all the way to the crusher....meh each to his own, at least mines crip and clear :D

thanks for the info guys

I will try & have a butchers today, yeah I was looking for perforation marks on the carpet over the wheel arche but there seems it be non.

I believe they're not installed unless it comes with a sub as standard - mine has no sub, and no wiring for it.

As for the rear connection block, mine lacks this too as I was looking for it when seeing if I could add the optional rear 12v socket in the boot.
