Hi Everyone,

Quick question - I am again for the third time in my third punto looking to wire the door speakers to an amp in the boot. I have a few technical questions though.

My model is the HGT and it has much more electrics running through the door tube. Anyone has a clue which wire relates to which etc...?

From what I've seen thus far there are 2 wires running to the tweeter and two running to the mid range/ bass unit (<-- or whatever you can call that tiny thing that trumps rather than gives out sound) Presumably Fiat must have a crossover built in somewhere to split the signal from the headunit?

I am trying to fit infinity perfect kappa 6.1 components in but the crossover that comes with is mahooosiiiive!! will more than likely fix to the door card either on the inside or drill a couple of holes in to the plastic at bottom of door card and run the wires through from main feed/ tweeter and mid range cone and route to each component accordingly.

Really need a little help from someone in the know here - Any advice welcome. I have done this before on an old mk2 punto by opening a larger hole in the door tube and running new speaker wire through direct to crossover and then connecting tweeter and woofer. This worked but of course left wires hanging around doing nothing. I doubt adopting this technique will work on HGT as there doesn't seem enough room to get more wire through the door tube....

em, i have just hade a vibe system fitted to my hgt by (brian sounds) were i live and it sounds ****ing banging....:slayer:

iv also just been and got some vibe compenents for my front doors with crossovers..:D..witch is going to give that little bit more mid...

take your time and work it out how to do it....you will be happy with the out come of the sound........(y)

im i will be fitting mine sunday so cant wait. but sorry i cant help you with more but i will let you no how i get on and hopfully be able to give you some advise.........

I'm confused as to your problem? Are you asking how to run the speaker wires from the car shell, through, into the door?

If so you have to pop off the black rubber connector near the bottom of the door and you will find there is a hard yellow plastic part on the door which connects the wires from the car to the door (for the windows, central locking and existing speakers). Only half of the plug is in use so you can drill a hole through the other half to run speaker wire through. This gets you to the woofer.

For the tweeter, if your using the origional location, the wires should either run inside the door up through the existing hole, or inside the doorcard and up to the tweeter. The door card and wing mirror handle cover will cover it.

Pics to come.

(p.s. use the ICE section for more chance of a reply)

Don't use the existing speaker wire, its too low grade.

Then just run the wire to the boot for the amp.

Ok here's how mine are wired:

From the boot, under the sills, under the footwell carpet, through the rubber seals in the wings, through this black rubber connector:

Like this:

which pops the wire into the door right by the woofer hole ready for connection to the crossovers.

Mount the crossover inside the door (otherwise you have to run two lots of wire through the connector which is a tight fit.), take the door card off to do this.

The tweeter wire runs from the crossover up the door and connects to the tweeter. It can either run DOWN from the tiny hole in the door (like in the pic below) or down the panel gap (like the green line I drew)

Thats all there is too it, mount the drivers, wire it all up and put your car back together and enjoy (y)

The Mids play full range as standard so the x-over is just as small capacitor on the actual tweeter so you will need your aftermarket one.
What size is your amp if its not too powerful (less than 70w RMS) then i would just hook up your amp to the ISO block and disconnect it from the HU. That will then send your signal to the standard cars speaker wiring you can then use that to go to your X-over in the doors and then from x-over to new speakers. (y)

Everyone you've been a great help.

The hole popping the rubber door seal off and running the wires through a drilled hole worked for me on my other two puntos because there was so much room to do it.

My new punto has s*** loads of wires running through the rubber and I'm worried about getting this horribly wrong and breaking the electric mirrors, locking or alarm !

What I've done thus far this evening on one door and has gone horribly wrong to -

I've Mounted the crossover on the door panel itself (Visible on the outside)
Run the existing wire from the woover cone to the "Main feed" on the crossover and then run a new wire from the woofer port on the crossover back to the woofer in the door card! Things not gone well. It all works (Kinda) if you turn up volume the speaker starts cutting in and out, also the bizarrest thing, when you close the door (No keys in ignition or power to the car) you hear static coming from the door I've just put the x-over in...

This is why I should leave cars alone :bang:

Anymore help welcome (p.s - Advice such as "Leave your car alone" is something I already now, hence my begging for help again)

Well a lot of car audio I learning from fcuk ups, it's certainly not easy. It souds too me like you have put the door card back on and it's trapping one of the wires. Take the card back off and tidy the wires up making sure none are trapped or under pressure.

Well....

The weather was finally "Ok" Enough to strip things down and go for attempt number 2 ! This was far more of a success than the first.

The crossovers are mounted on the door card (on the nice side facing inwards) I couldnt get them to fit inside the door itself as it would have made wiring far to tricky for me.

I have re-wired the tweeter from the cross over and also the woofer itself from the crossover. The only wire I could not replace is that coming from inside the car itself through the connecting tube to the door. I popped the rubber apart as you do, but all the pins are being used so there is nowhere for me to drill to run new wire through. I will have to take it to the experts in the near future and have them work their magic in order to get wire running from the boot in to both doors.

The cutting out of the speakers is now only evident when you really crank it, i think this could purely be because the wire from head unit to door is low grade (or) because my headunit (Standard) cant take it anymore??

Just thought I'd update this thread. When I eventually get the experts to sort I will ask what they did and post back. Hopefully this will help any future person wishing to have a crack at this !!

It's been a little while since I checked up on this thread (Have been away) - Just wondered how you got on??
