I recently bought a new pioneer head unit for my 2009 Bravo, and the first problem i came across was the wiring, well that was sorted by attaching the red/green wire (one wire) from the car to the red wire and yellow wire (separate wires) on the new pioneer adapter.
But the problem with this was that it could never be turned off as it did not have an auto off function like the old head unit and the fiat had no standard ACC wire.
After reading about it seemed like i should attach a wire to anything that requires the ignition to be on in order to be used. however this would mean that i wouldnt be able to use the stereo unless the ignition was on... which meant that the air con would be on and numerous other things. which would use even more battery.
so after sitting down with a cuppa i thought to myself, "why not just put a switch in the wire...
i cut two wires of standard 8amp wire, attached a female clip (bullet clips) to one and a male clip to the other, then soldered the other ends to a switch from some old toy of mine. then i plugged the switch into the pioneer adapter inbetween one of the permanent power feeds. and hey presto i now have a stereo that can be used whenever i want!
i then fitted the switch in the glove box to keep it out of sight.
it may seem like a nuisance but surely its just the same as switching the stereo off anyways.
another problem i had was with the aerial, the old fiat head unit had a female plug, as did the pioneer head unit. now thanks to another cuppa i thought to myself, "why not just get a standard tv aerial wire... so i got one. and to make it fit into the pioneer i simply placed a small male bullet connector onto the existing male part of the tv aerial wire. used some pliers to make it a bit smaller, then plugged it into the pioneer head unit (note: make sure the bullet clip extends about 1cm out of the wire). the other end i plugged into the fiat aerial. and (to my surprise) it works like a charm!!!

so for all those people out there who don't want to have to buy anything, or purchase so called special adapters, there is an easier way, it simply requires a bit of tea and some thinking!!!

hope this has helped

Best Regards

Or you could just remove the faceplate from the stereo :bang:

Nice idea for the aerial though (y)

(p.s. - I drink coffee, its a proper think drink)

can you describe you problem in short? I am confused by what you said

There is no Ignition/Acc power feed in fiats for the Head Unit. You have to bridge the single permanant live from the car to the Aftermarket HU's permanant and Switched live for it to power up.

What the OP has done is fit a switch inline with the swiched live on the Aftermarket loom so the unit does not draw any power when not in use.
I think that is what he has done anyway, one thing that i would like to know is does the Unit keep its memory?

I remove the faceplate

been thinking about getting an ignition feed but thought whats the point when its no extra effort to take the faceplate off and it means it wont get stolen lol

Thats fine except I have found some units power up when the faceplate is removed even when switched off beforehand, unless it is powered from a switched live.

if i remove my faceplate (if i switch it off or not) it deffinatly does not take power, my amp turns on or off with just removeing the faceplate aswell

maybe i just got lucky with my headunit lol

Same here, little security LED flashes with the facia removed but if that drains your battery its time to buy a new battery anyway.

Stu made a good point earlier and hasn't been answered yet, does the HU keep its memory after being turned off and on?

Yeah its just something i have never actually worked out. I do things like the OP's switch every now and then but never actually take any notice what actually holds the memory.
Obviously sense would tell you that if you put the perm live on a switch then it will completely power down and hold no memory. If that were true then why do we swap the red and yellow around on ignition fed cars.

sorry for the late reply,
but in response to the memory question; all settings are saved, even the bluetooth settings etc, and it even resumes playback from the exact same place as before when listening to ipod mode.

and yea that is exactly what i have done! :) ive never been any good at structuring things longer than a sentence or two :p

i would if i could ;)
my head unit doesnt have a faceplate, just a big double din of a thing. its a complete b*gger to remove, including taking the whole fascia off, undoing screws etc etc etc.
