Sorry you will have to bear with me here as i only know the thickneses of cable by eye but Noooo. Im pretty sure that the speaker cable can potentially be too big if you are not puting enough power through it.
Also remember that if you have to trim it down to fit your connections then you are wasting your money. I would think the 14 gauge would suffice for front speakers especially considering that is a bit of a push to get into most spade/bullet connectors without coning.
Big wire does look better though

Soz, i meant to write 12gauge. Kinda thought that about the whole size into spade connectors thing and went down a gauge.

Thought about it though and the only connector I am planning on putting on is the spade terminal to the midbass. Will run everything else as continuous runs. The amp can take massive cables, and the crossovers have pretty chunky connectors too.

sod solder too many things that go wrong and its alot harder to get them off the scotch locks are safe did u see how much electrical tape i put on them (y)

Scotchlocks are a bodge and a fire hazard in my own opinion.

If they were so good then they would be used in the repairing of all things electrical....

i have finally done it

this is a sort of guide

i removed the foam and removed the socket from the bottom of the 12v socket and checked the connections to find the 12v switched mine was a red and white wire

i put some clips on the wire to connect the 12v switched to a red wire i had lying round and clipped the other end to the red wire on the back of the H/U i fed the wire around the back through the gap at the bottom

i then put all the foam back in after making sure the wire worked correctly

the only thing it doesnt do is turn on when the key isnt in the ignition you have to put it to the first setting to turn it on

hope this helps

Sorry to bump this thread but need to say thanks to you fella. Could not figure out why my HU wouldn't work, had manuals out the lot. Stumbled upon your thread after searching and bingo. I initially was going to just run it straight off the battery and just turn it off when the car stopped, but I forgot it has a flip security head...so when I turned it off it wouldn't come back on again LOL.

Going to get a bit of wire to go from the cigarette lighter to the ignition live on the back of the HU. Wish me luck! Can't believe what a pain in the ass this is though!

It's not too hard, if in trouble I think I left an in-depth guide with pictures at my webpage ( www.mcfrede.dk )

Great guide! Yes, the faceplate wasn't the right colour and definitely not the right fit. My stereo faceplate won't fit on due to bit of trim and the angle the headunit goes in at (admittedly, it has clips missing from the bottom) so it sticks out at an angle. Tried bluetack but to no avail. Double sided sticky tape next!

Glad you liked it, took some time before I decided it was probably worthwhile to put on my website.
