Since i've amped up my new front speakers i'm getting interference from the front speakers.
The interference changes pitch as i rev the engine, and when the engine is off. but it stays the same volume.. ie, whether it is volume 01 or volume 30 the interference doesn't get louder or quieter.

I beleive this could be caused by a bad earth? (so i have been told)
I've earthed the new amp to the old amp, and the old amp to the chasis.

does it sound like an earth problem?

I've also been advised that i can get something to put inbetween the RCA cables and the amp to remove the interference?
is that correct?

Hope you can help so i can get this sorted ASAP

Cheers

Take the daisy chained earth off now!!! :bang: Earth the new amp to the same place on the chassis. Preferably your earth point should be a sanded down area in the spare wheel bay.

You can get a Ground loop isolator but it isnt a solution to the em it is just a mask.

thats what i thought lol..
what effect will that have? is it likely to be the thing causing the whine?

also, my amp which is powering the subs has RCA's running in to that from the head unit (obv) but it has and RCA out aswel which isn't being used.

Could i run from that to the rca in the second amp? Instead of running the rca's for the second amp all the way to the headunit?

I would leave the RCA's as they are as you will get a significant loss in quality if done any other way.
Yes a bad earth can cause a multitude of probs

Agreed.

Usually it is mainly the issues with how the power cables and RCA's are run.

Also a bad earth can cause a number of problems as said.

Best thing to do is get a multimeter to test for a good earth, sand the contact points down to no paint so you get a nice solid earth.

Yeah run them down the drivers side then its not difficult. I just undone the 2 screws in the cluster and that gives you enough access room to pass the RCA's behind. The cluster is pretty flexible i know im skinny but i managed to pull it enough to get most of my arm behind there.
I can possibly get a photo later if you need but it is a very simple task.

Anyway how did you fit the comps you got.

The power cable should run down one side of the car and the remote and Phono leads should run down the other side.

Running remote or phono alongside power has been known to cause interference the fluctuates with revs.

yeah but as a rule of thumb........power cables go alone, everything else goes the other side. Can't go wrong then. Plus the remote and phono come from the HU so they use the same path through the car, might aswell put them together.

Your problem may be with a bad earth although a daisy chain earth isnt the end of the world. As long as the cables are short, you shouldnt have any problem. I doubt they would cause the interference you are getting.

The problem is most certinatly the power cable being run too close to the speaker or RCA cables. they need to run down opposite sides of the car. Keep all speaker cables down one side and all power cables down the other. There is no need to seperate the remote and 12v + cable.

Remote is a power cable ;) But it is a silly low voltage so it really doesnt matter which side it Go's. Its only a rule of thumb because sometimes the remote is attached to the RCA and you normally run the Remote at exactly the same time as the RCA being that they go to the same location, that is the only reason.

i had this problem with my ssub picking up engine noise etc everytime i revved. I solved the problem by re-earthing my ground cable to another suitable place, also i used a new earth cable for peace of mind, now my sound is sweeeeeeeeeettt.:slayer:
Hope this helps.
