Folks,

Having trawled through the site for information on the MP3 capability of my headunit in the Panda (4x4, regd Jul-06), it seems that the unit I have was one of those early types that does not play MP3 files from CD, nor does it have connection for an external CD-Changer. And all of this despite the handbook stating that it does..... Picture of the back of my current unit attached, which hopefully supports this paragraph (those in the know can confirm I guess!).

Anyway, I've now decided to try to find a more recent headunit from another Panda to retrofit - on the assumption that there are enough keen ICE fans on here that might at some point have ripped something suitable out of their cars, as part of a proper upgrade.

Offers of advice and options gratefully received! I look on eBay daily, but nothing thus far.

Thanks,

Phil G

Need to pull the HU out again tonight to look for the Serial Number sticker or similar, so will take a few.

Thanks for the reply.

Phil

I pulled the unit out last night and took these pictures of the connections and Part/Serial Nos. I have bought one of the BlueSpot MP3 fly leads and was intending to connect it into broadly where the yellow connector sits, but it will neither go in without major surgery to Green and Yellow existing plugs, nor does the unit have the required 3 connections on the far right (in this picture), as can be seen from the yellow connector block and its single wire (whatever that may be for). Beneath that yellow connector, there are only 3 pins and they are on the LHS of the plug in relation to the picture. The siingle green wire shown hooks into that middle post.

All very frustrating. Hence the need for a better unit, unless someone here can confirm otherwise with mine!

Thanks very much all,

Phil

All,

I am close to just buying a new MP3-compatible unit from Italian eBay, but would like some sort of confirmation from those in the know if possible, that this later unit will support the attachment of an MP3 player 3.5mm flylead connector into the CD-Changer slot on the back. This is what have been described in huge detail on this forum before, but refuses to work on my poverty-spec unit.

Any votes for whether this will work on a new unit like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=250410517502 ?

Thanks,

Phil G

Pull out the blue connector and see what you loose buddy. Im going to hazard a guess at steering controls. This is where that after market blue connector should go for the CD changer.

Cool - I'll give it a go. Re-reading previous posts, the yellow plug seems to be for the AUX input, if available, and would be marked A.AF-L / A.AF-R etc etc. Mine is just labelled NC, which I guess means Not Connected.

Will pull all out and replace blue with blue and see what happens. Getting good at removing the HU with bits from a coat-hanger now!

Thanks,

Phil

Yeah im not 100% sure how it all works but you can use any of the slots lol. Most of the CD changers plug into the blue one.
This is one of those situations where i could just have a fiddle around and try things out myself. Things like this are extremely difficult to decipher over the net im afraid lol.
