Why was ISO connections invented and used when it seems every other manufacturer in the world uses them and wires their stereos to suit..... EXCEPT FIAT!!! :bang:

I have just bought a new Pioneer F900BT for my Bravo and have spent all afternoon trying to get it to work :bang:

I have connected it all up using the ISO connections but nothing. The headunit won't turn on or anything.

I've had a look at the Fiat ISO and half the wires don't match up with the Pioneers ISO connector (wires on the Pioneer connection meet up with blank spaces on the Fiat connector in particular the Yellow '+ Battery' cable on the pioneer block meets nothing on the Fiat side) so now I have no idea what to do.

Obviously the best way is to rewire the Pioneer block to suit the Fiat's block but just now I have no idea what wire does what on the Fiat block.

Any ideas??

I am currently trawling the net trying to find a wiring diagram for the new Bravo!!

Every other car I have had it's been a cse of plugging in the unit and away it went. Not fiat though. They have to be weird and different... grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!

what's the bravo oem headunit?quote]

Don't know what you mean by OEM Headunit?

2007 Bravo if that helps and it's the original Headunit?

The actual connector fits fine. It's the wiring that's the problem. The common wires don't seem to link up. And I've no idea what each cable represents on the Fiat side so I can start swapping them around to get them in the correct place in relation to the Pioneers ISo connector.

oem - original equipment manufacturer.

Basically was asking who made and what model is your Bravo's original head unit. Grundig/Panasonic etc. From that you could perhaps find more info on this unusual ISO connector.

In all my previous Fiats where I've replaced the head unit I've chopped the fiat harness and replaced with an ISO recovered from a scrap yard.

im sure the wiring is the same as the stilo and there are a few guides on here on by me to get it going, give that search a try for the stilo, all the wiring on newer fiats is the same way round, usually its the red and yellow wire that need to be swapped around then a switched live feed from cig lighter or ignition barrel (also a guide by but someone else posted it)(y)

The Fiat connector appears to be an ISO connector. It plugs in perfectly to the ISO connector on the Pioneer end. The problem seems to be the wiring on the Fiat's ISO. It doesn't match the wiring on the Pioneers ISO (e.g. The Permanent Live Wires pins don't match up. In this case the Pin on the Pioneers ISO plugs into an empty space on the Fiat ISO ).

I think the only solution is to sit and swap all the pins and associated wires on the Pioneers ISO to suite the layout of the Fiat's ISO so that live meets live, earth meets earth, remote meets remote etc. The problem is I can't find a wiring diagram anywhere for the new Bravo so I've no idea what cable is what. I'm still searching the net but with no luck.

you dont need a wiring diagram of any kind, you just need the required lives/earths to the new headunit. You can guess all day (all year whats left of it) but you need to know what is coming out of the ISO plug on the new unit side.

if it dont power up see if you have a live at the yellow & red wires (going into head unit) with ignition on (and off)

I can't as at this moment in time the Fiat's wiring doesn't match the Pioneers wiring that seems to be the problem.

Just now the Yellow wire from the Headunit goes into an empty bay on the Fiats connector when they are plugged together.

Basically the Fiat connector seems to be wired in a random manner to the standard ISO set-up. I've tried my new headunit in both my mums and sisters cars and it plugs in and works right away. I've also taken there headunit and stuck it into mine and both don't turn on. I've also checked that I haven't blown a fuse etc by placing the OEM headunit (thanks Hellcat ;)) back in and it works fine again. :bang:

I know what each of the wires on the new units ISO do. I know what is live, earth, speed sensor etc etc as I have the manual that states them all.

It's the Fiat side I don't. I can't find a diagram anywhere to tell me what the Red/Yellow wire is or what the Red/Green wire is etc. If I could find that out I'd be able to start matching the ISO together so they match when connected together.

forget the cars wiring, its inmaterial.........you need a live on the red & yellow to the headunit coming from the ISO connector. If you dont have a live on the red then join it with the yellow so you know have lives on both wires...job done.

Ok (y)

I've been searching the forum and been reading that none of the recent Fiat cars have a constant live feed to the headunit? Is this correct? I'd assume a constant live feed would mean you didn't need to put the keys in the ignition to turn on the headunit? If so then on the OEM Headunit I could turn it on without the keys in the ignition

Sorry for causing you all the trouble. I am not 100% when it come to electrics. Never could understand what was needed and where

Think a diagram is required here.

His yellow wire doesn't connect to anything - there is no pin on the car's ISO block to connect to the red wire!

Greatest page on the web for the ISO connector.

fitted litreally thousands of headunts, never needed a diagram.

end of day the headunit needs 2 lives to power up; (and a earth)

get a multimeter, test light/ bulb even & find out at connector which ones are live.

from memory you have one live (red/green?) which is a battery live, you need to join wiring so the 2 feeds to stereo (normally red and a yellow wires) have this feed as in diagram above.

Got you now! So I need to make sure that either the Red or Yellow wire connects directly with the Red/Green wire on the Fiat side. Then make sure both the Red and Yellow wires are connected together also.

I'll get a diagram up shortly to show you exactly what I have so you can confirm/see for yourself

normally the red & yellow wires have a bullet connector to swop them or join them together for this actual purpose. you could always run a ignition wire from the switch etc

post up a pic of the headunit wiring loom with connector and i'll show you more clearly
