ok peeps. finking of changing my headunit as i fink its on the way.

i aint too fussed about sound quaity as long as it works, and i dont want anything that the whole of dudley town can hear when i drive past.

all i want is 1) new head unit to have mp3 play back
2) 100 quid max
3) basicaly i just want a decent replacement without going over the top cos i want a fully working headunit to replace my current one as its on its way out . and 4) just standard replacement speakers...nothing like 1 billion watts lol. (just speakers to replace my crackly on the way out speakers).

while on halfrauds site i came across this:

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_708985_langId_-1_categoryId_165474

what you guys think? whats ripspeed like? anybody got anything like this?

any advice would be appreciated:). to go or not to go for it?

what sort of car have you got, standard head unit i guess?

as the advert says its refurbished so hopefully should be ok? my experience of the ripspeed though units are buttons breaking, paint flacking off the buttons and fascia clips breaking.

for that money you could get a decent jvc, kenwood or sony headunit which are better than the ripspeed, in terms of quality. also the jvc, kenwood or sony ones will prob come with an aux for your ipod or mp3 player as well as being mp3 compatable. have a look about.

www.caraudiosecurity.com is a good place to look, other people may have websites they can recommend to you also.

the head unit i got is blaupunkt BUT its not the standard fiat punto one. its a diffrent style.

my budge its just around the 100 pound mark max for the head unit really.

ah ok thnx lads.il stay away from the ripspeed then if its that bad.

it was just the fact that it was a dvd player screen on that attracted me thats all. lol

Yeah ive heard nothing but bad things about ripspeed, and having a screen just means another thing to go wrong lol

I would pay the extra £10 and get this one if you dont want any amps. http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-cde101rm-p-7165.html

Matt i think that CAD quote pares of preouts dont they so i think the one that you suggested had 2 sets.

Yeah CAD do quote pairs of preouts, so that would have two sets. If you shop around you should be able to get a decent headunit.

I personally have a blaupunkt one which i cant fault, as you already have one, why not just replace with a newer model (y)

This one is quite nice and within budget: Click me :)

i hawe ripspeed for more then 6 months and no probs at all!!! easy to use and prety good sound qouality!!! + its a dvd so u can write more musik in to one disck!:slayer:

IMO that JVC looks gash and JVC arent really big players for good quality budget audio.

Pioneer are ok you cant really failt them but alpine are still better.

Ripspeed sell so many recon units because they have so many sent back ;)

for the love of god don't buy a ripseed or an alpine.. alpines are so over rated its unreal

You are 100% wrong rich. Alpines make the best headunits for there money. You can ask anyone who knows about ice and they will be of the same opinion. Yes there speakers, subs and amps arent the best but there HU's arebetter the competition. Pioneer come close but alpine are still better. You say that are ugly but function over form ;) If you are looking for a HU that just looks good then a agree get a pioneer but still i dont think alpines are that bad looking. Alot worse units out there.

i can vouch for alpine, ive one myself and ive used 100's of stereos and no singe din unit is as good with an ipod. never get them returned either. pioneer isnt fantastic, their units all look the same >_>
ripspeed is a department in halfords, they sub-contract chinese company to make them stereos. i get them returned quite regulary. tho watever you do DO NOT GET A REFURB UNIT! guarnteed it wont work 1st, and you'll have to send it back again and again until u eventually end up with one that wrks. i personally seeen this happen to a load of people. its 2nd hand, and was broke, it certainly isnt going to be great by any standards. for that sort of money i would just buy a kenwood/sony, well built units at not a lot of money offering your spec at half your budget

thanx for your oppinions once again people. im glad i didnt go for ripspeed...it was just that it had a dvd player that swayed me for it.i bought a pioneer headunit. i am very pleased with it. it has usb,mp3 play back and i gota admit im really impressed with the sound quality it has improved it slightly and enough for me.for what i need and my budget i am over the moon with it:). i think it looks sleek too. mp3 play back was most important for me and it has the usb also if i need it but i probly wont. it has a nice clear screen too and i like the fact that i can have all my albums in folders and track and artist names show up also.

this is the one i got. strongly recomend this unit for anybody who wants a headunit for the same needs as i and on more of a budget.
