Hi,

has anyone changed their radio in a 01 plated multipla?

we have the generic tape one and it's rubbish so I want to swap it for a generic new one which will play cd's and memory cards.

any tips, comments or advice before I attack the dash?

Someone mentioned that I need a new face plate as the one already there is an integral part of the current radio, there are a few for sale on ebay, again anyone got any experience of these?

The ebay facia's are quite good, got one myself a couple of months ago, around £6 to the door IIRC. The colour is a spot on match and the fit is good too.
The genuine Fiat ones are only about £12 though if you'd rather go down that route.

Worth mentioning the standard antenna connection is ISO for when you source your new head unit.

Easy enough swap, just get the release keys (2x u shaped wire thingys) and the stereo will pop straight out! The fascia adaptors fit without problems and then you're sorted. The only issue tends to be the aerial lead coming loose as you push the stereo back in... A bit of masking tape over the socket will prevent this hassle!

The only problem I had was putting in a cheapo stereo in my wifes Multi, the thing wouldn't fit the new fascia properly or slide all the way back into the slot. I ended up taking it back to the shop for a refund and replacing the Fiat stereo with my own stereo and changer from my Rover, fitted perfectly and much better quality than the Fiat (Blaupunkt) one!

I allways undo the cupholder and then remove the screw behind it which then if u undo the 4 screws around the ashtray the whole lower part of where your trying to fit it to will remove nicely so you can then utilise the space at the bottom of the cavity for placing all the extra wires that come with modern radios , i could not get mine to fit without doing this because it has some funky noise suppressors and loads of outputs.

Its easy i just make it sound hard lol.
