Hi there.

I've just installed the 3 wires needed to run along the car to have ICE in the boot. Positive cable from battery, remote from head unit and phono.

I have the positive cable coming through the grommet and have it running along the passenger side door along with the remote cable from the head unit.
And the phono I have placed running along the driver door.

Only problem is, I have finished installing all the wiring under the carpet etc, all wired through the dashboard nicely.....and now the head unit doesn't come on at all!!!

I have tried with both my Sony head unit and the factory head unit - both don't work.
I fear I have broken something whilst I was installing the wires.

Can anyone help and point me in the right direction as to what I might have done!?!?

Yea, the red and yellow wire thing - I did that. The head unit was working fine yesterday.

I've tried to check the fuse, but I can't get to it properly because of a metal plate in front of it next to the glove box. Do you know how to get to the fusebox properly?

Failing that is there anything else? Any connections I may have dislodged? All the wires nearby where I was working today were in their looms and I'm pretty sure I was careful not to touch anything.

If it is the fuse, why would that have gone by simply installing some wires? Everything was off, and the wires I was installing weren't connected to anything.

I am presuming you have ground the amp aswell? Sounds like you have blown one of the fuses tbh. Ive not looked to check any of mine so cant help you but if you look in your books you get with the car there should be a section in there about what fuses power the headunit.

It is the fuse bord behind that plate in the glove box. There should be two rows of fuses. if you have blown the fuse it will be in the left row. get a multimeter and buzz each one. you should find it that way but i think its the second fuse down.

The amp isn't even in the car yet!!

I think it might be a fuse aswell, but I can't get my finger in there well enough to pull it out thanks to that metal plate. I have looked in the manual and it is the 2nd fuse down on the left side. It says remove the screws to reveal the fusebox - thats wrong. The fusebox is mostly already revealed when the glove box is opened. There just a metal plate in the way which doesn't help when trying to get fingers in to check. Maybe a pair of tweezers would work. Unfortunately, I don't have a multi-meter to check.
I'll give it another try taking it out tomorrow to have a look to see if it's blown.

But again, even if it is something simple like that, I don't understand how what I did today could have blown a fuse.

Sorted. I will get onto that tomorrow in my lunch hour :)

If the fuse is all good though, any other suggestions as to what the problem might be?

Im 99% Sure thats all it is unless you have gone threw a wire some where along the line.If it isnt the fuse then i honestly dont no. did you pull the head unit out or have you not tryed to fit the amp wires yet. mine blew when i was pulling out my dvd headunit must of got caught on something

Will wait and see tomorrow then. I'm hoping that's all it is. Otherwise might need to call out a specialist.
I didn't do any drilling or anything so don't think I would have gone through anything. Just unscrewed a few things to tuck the wire underneath the carpet, then screwed them back on.

It was the fuse!!! Couldn't manage to take the metal plate off but, I got a pair of pliers and took the fuse out easily, to find it's broken.
I wonder what would have caused this to happen? Any ideas?

Anyway, problem solved. Will nip into Halfords after work. :)

I've just had a brain wave as to what might have caused it.

When I was fitting the RCA phono lead, I connected one end to the back of the head unit so I knew how much slack I needed when tucking it away under the carpet. I didn't take it back out of the head unit. So it would have been connected up to the head unit when I was messing around fitting the cable - with the ends of the lead touching metal parts of the foot pedals when I was tucking the cable away under the steering column. Would this have caused a short, and therefore the fuse to blow?
