Ok well you have probably all seen my previous posts, but now i have come to a new problem.

I Wired up my amplifier and connected it to my headunit etc (the Amplifier works)

But, for some reason when i connect my Amplifier to the subwoofer, nothing happens and i have checked the setting and gain etc etc like i was advised and no noise at all.

Another problem i'm getting is that when i connect my speakers to the amplifer i get noise, just like a hissing noise, so power is going to them and when i adjust the power etc, it goes louder and quieter, but it's like its not getting the signal for the song :S

And my final point is that for some reason when i connected this up, the headunit started to get REALLY hot on the right-hand side and even the front speakers stopped working, even though i had not touched them at all. Obviously i turned it all off after this and disconnected the cable from the Battery.

When my Dad came round he said it could be a number of things, but obv didnt know without seeing, he said it could be shorting somewhere and could of possibly blown something somehwere or that it's wired wrong and it's over-heating, but the way i did it im SURE it's all wired up properly.

Could one problem be the wire im using? The speakers are 250 Watt's and im using that speaker wire to run the Amplifier to the speakers/The subwoofer.

Run-Down on the Equipment:

1000 Watt JBL sub-woofer. (Sure will sound amazing if i ever get it connected)
800 Watt Mutant Amp.
2, 6x9 Infinity 250 Watt speakers

My headunit is a JVC, no idea of the power output.

Thanks in advance, i really would like some advice on how to go about connecting it up properly and what i need to do so.

Hope i haven't wrecked my system!

~Morty.

unplug everything you did and see if front speakers are working.

then connect RCA cables to the inputs on the amps.

connect remote wire

connect speakers to amp, positive to positive, negative to negative.

connect earth to amp

connect power from battery to amp

check lpf is only on for the sub and is off for the 6x9s.

check all gain levels on amp

check levels on HU for example sub level (if one of your rcas is for sub) front rear fade, left right balance etc.)

don't think i've forgotten anything so it should all work fine.

perhaps you could even take photos of how you've wired rear of HU, amps, speakers etc. so we can see if there's anything obvious.

Yeah, thanks for your run-down, and im quite sure that is how it's all wired, i did it in my last car and it worked fine, it's driving me absolutely mental haha.

I'll try get some pictures of it tomoz if i can't do it!

Oh btw im based in Manchester. Trafford, like 15 mins from the trafford Centre.

you sure the equipment works? the amp and everything? HU? the heat of the HU is slightly worrying.

I'm in Hertfordshire

Yes the equipment works fine. Amp was brand new and boxed, never been opened and the light works fine + It powers the speakers, just doesn't play the song, which as far as i'm aware isn't the amplifiers job lol

Been running the back speakers for a few weeks without an amplifier and sub, so i know both the front and back speakers work with the Headunit. Never tried the Subwoofer, bought it off a mate, but when i first tried it with my old amplifier it moved and stuff, like the speakers but not to the song!

The headunit only seemed to overheat when i started playing with it today, connecting the Amp up and stuff!

Could the wire be an issue at all?

the rca outputs from the headunit are low power outputs and don't rely on the HUs amp at all. the amp in the boot is what boosts the power so it doesn't matter what the amp is doing it still shouldn't affect the HU. have you tried replacing RCAs incase the problem is that or even the RCA outputs on the HU?

Arrrr, i appreciate the help guys.

I keep saying the amplifier works fine, it has the lights, it's all connected fine. Amp is brand new.

Re: More help needed!! (updating with pics)

I'll get a picture up for you guys now, Think i've blown the headunit anyway tbh, im not sure how to check that though, just gets really really hot on one side when i turn it on now.

why do you say HU is blown? does it not work at all?

is that amp for your sub? if it's a 2 channel amp shouldn't it be bridged?

i can't see anything obvious. have you checked preout settings on HU as advised above?

Have no idea what bridging is, but it's not connected up to my sub atm anyway, i was trying to run the speakers off it, i have 2 amplifiers aswell if there is someway i can en-corporate both.

Not sure how to check the pre-outs on the HU, but there was a full system fitted in the car before i bought, just with no equipment, had all wires in place etc so i just put my kit in.

I say its blown because the front speakers have always worked through it, then all the sound stopped and it started to get hot and overheat, since then everytime i power it up, it quickly becomes VERY hot. Powers up fine, just no sound, even though the front speaker wires are still connected. Truly baffled.

you got another HU you could try?

so have you not actually put any of the wires in yourself? it was all there when you bought the car? you know it's powering up ok so the problem is either HU, amp or rca/speaker cables.

If you only have the one pre-out you should still be able to use more than one amp as your amp should have an RCA through as well as the input meaning you can take the signal out of the amp into another and in theory connect amp after amp in a chain.

is there a mode button on your HU that lets you go into settings or anything like that? then scroll through the settings which may have preout volumes or on/off or something like that. My JVC has sub volume (as one of the pre-outs is sub only)

Nah, can't try another headunit, pretty much buggered now, can't afford one haha.

yeah all the wires were already installed, all i basically did was plug in the speakers (worked fine without the amplifier) and connect the cables up to my new amplifier.

didn't you car come with any headunit? even standard fiat one? just to check the speakers?

i'm running out of ideas of things to try. i think you're gonna need to try another hu with preouts to check the amp and speakers work.

Nah bought it second hand, was already all installed, i know the amplifier works because it powers up and is brand new, cost 200 pounds, speakers definitely work because was running them for 2 weeks, think i just need a new headunit lol.
