Hey, I'm new to this forum and I'm looking for some advice as to how to install a sub in my car.

I'm driving a 2002 Fiat Punto Active Sport 1.2, and it's my first car so I don't really know what I'm doing in terms of installing a subwoofer; though I know that I've gotta hook a wire up to the battery then feed it through my car to the back.

Apparently, I can't do any of this without a head unit though - so I was looking on eBay but I'm not entirely sure as to exactly what I should get; then what I'd need to install the head unit.

I'm looking at a Pioneer head unit, but I have no idea how to install it - so first of all I'd like to know how to install a head unit; and what I'd need as in terms of a new part for the dashboard - as well as where I could get my hands on the new dashboard part.

Thanks.

get a headunit with pre-outs. at least 2 ideally. these pre-outs are what you would use to connect to amps for subs etc.

a better headunit will have higher quality audio than a cheaper/standard one.

for a mk2 punto you will need a buy a facia panel which, once the standard HU is removed, will fit in leaving the correct size for an aftermarket HU.

removing the standard HU is easy. Just put something like wire coathangers in each of the 4 holes which releases a latch thing then pull the HU out. might need to wiggle and tug on it to get it out. First one i did was really easy, 2nd was more of a challenge but it WILL work!

The wiring should be the same and should just plug straight into the new HU. If it doesn't work, you might need to join the yellow and red wires or swap them over, this depends on the HU but the 2 i've fitted haven't needed any wiring changed.

Go to Fiat for a fascia adapter they are about £10-15

Get a sub and amp and wiring kit. Run the power lead from the battery, through the grommit and down the side into the boot. Run the remote wire down the passenger side to the boot aswell. Then run the RCA's down the drivers side to the boot. Drill a hole in your spare wheel well sand the paint off and ground the amp to that. Connect it all up and sorted.

Thanks for all your help, I'm pretty sure I know how to install a sub now as I was having a look at my friends.

About the fascia adapter, type this in eBay: "FP-01-04 FIAT PUNTO RADIO CD FASCIA SURROUND PANEL MK2". That's what I'm looking for right? (I need 5 posts to post a link to eBay)

But yeah, I think I've found what I need. Always cheaper on eBay (y)

Alright, you got any better recommendations of what I should go for?

Oh and I have another question, my Punto came with like a 100Watt sub in the back as standard. Dunno if you can really call it a sub, but it's that kinda thing. When I install a decent sub, will I need to get rid of this one?

Thanks again.

I'm thinking about getting a head unit with 3 pre-outs, apparently for front, rear and sub support.

Now I was wondering, how do I connect a sub up to a Pioneer head unit? So far I know that to connect the sub you've gotta connect it to the battery, then feed a wire through - but how do I let the head unit know a subs installed?

Erm, okay. I don't think I have an amp, I take it I'll need to buy one?

Another question, just bought my new head unit today - a Pioneer DEH-P6000UB if that means anything to you. My only worry is that it's only got two pre-outs, is that enough?

I've been reading up and the DEH-P6050UB has 3 pre-outs, one for front, one for rear and one for the sub. So is 2 pre-outs enough, or have I bought the wrong piece of kit?

2 pre outs are fine. One for sub and one for front/rear componants.

You will need an amp to power the sub unless it is an active sub(has the amp built into the box.

Right, got a friend explaining it to me now. Could you get me some links to show me what I'm looking for please?

I'm having a few problems actually getting the stock CD player out, I tried using wire coat hangers I'd been advised too but I just can't get it to come out.

Any tips on getting it out?

So let me get this straight, you put four coat hangers into the holes at once?

Then you just pull them out? I'll give it another go in a minute, and I was pushing 3 or so inches into the holes, is that far enough?

Also, I take it I'll have to give it quite a tug to get it out? It won't just slide out will it?
