the amp switch is a relay. when you turn the HU on it sends 12v to the amp via the remote cable, making it turn on, so with a switch on the remote if there is no current the amp is off and if there is a current the amp is on.
no, if for example, you connected your remote wire to a live feed, the amp would stay on because the 12v feed switches the amp on. if there is no 12v feed the amp is off. a switch would simply mean u could turn off the sub's amp (by stopping the 12v connection to it) leaving the other speakers on.

into the headunit, i dont think i have a connector called rem!? um but i do have an empty connector hole thing which has a syhmbol for a switch, can i assume this is the 12v output when the radio is on?? if not any other ideas? cheers
