Hi everyone,

I have a MK2 punto and i am thinking about upgrading my front speakers, adding some rear speakers, and getting a small sub and amp.

Problem is, i have literally no understanding of how to wire speakers and amps to headunit, what crossovers are used for etc.

Just wondered if anyone can direct me to a website or guide that could help me to understand the basics!

Thanks alot (y)

Thanks for your help guys, have done some research and im feeling more confident about doing my own install now.

Have decided to go for a sub and amp, and some small speakers for the rear of the car, perhaps replacing the front components at a later date if they sound a bit crap.(y)

from recent experience i'd ditch the rear speakers and spend the money on decent components in the front, i just fitted some yesterday and only powered off the hu they sound excellent even turned up full, no distortion at all, bass is good even with the factory sub,
wouldn't go back to factory components even if someone paid me..... depends how much actually:tempt:

Sounds good, which components did you get, and did they fit straight into your MK2? Id like some that could still be covered back up using the grille. Also, what size tweeters will fit comfortably?

blaupunkt vpc172s http://www.blaupunkt.com/au/7606273003_main.asp

the tweeters weren't a straight fit, but the woofers were with the autoleads speaker pods, took a bit of work, found it fun rather than tedious, dependant on whether you're willing to do it, took the door cards off, drilled a hole for the tweeters, made a hole for wires to come through the door card, put the crossover on with selftapping screws, put all the wires through the hole, connected it to the crossover and sorted :), the speakers are covered with grills you get with the autoleads pods, and crossovers can be mounted inside the door but was having a hard time with mine so stuck it outside

got pics of the install here https://www.fiatforum.com/i-c-e/141276-opinions.html

Looks good mate (y)

would you recommend splitting the bass and treble between the front components only, or keep the fronts on treble and use a sub for the bass?

i'd deffo recommend just letting the components do their job with high and mid frequency sound and have a sub for the low freq (bass) sound, you notice such a difference when you unplug the sub, sounds like something's missing, even with the factory sub

you decided what route you're taking with your i.c.e?

Sounds good, yeah thats what i was thinking, let the comps sort it out and use the woofer for a bit of kick

Pretty much gonna go for some new front components, amp and sub, fairly cheap to start off my ICE. Got a good idea for a boot build aswell (y)
