Cinq Sound system

Ok, anyone that knows me will tell you, it takes me a little while to do anything on my car because I want to get it perfect first time, and my sound system is no exception.

I've got a Kenwood KDC-MP6090R head Unit
http://www.kenwood.hu/download/manuals/kdc_mp6090r.pdf

This runs some front Sony XS-F1022 front 10cm speakers mounted in the dash http://www.car-hifi.co.uk/sony/itm00182.htm

And some Kenwood KFC-1378 13cm speakers mounted in the quarter panels.
http://www.dealtime.co.uk/xPF-Kenwood_KFC_1387

But I'm going to replace the 10cm speakers with some Kenwood KFC-P403 4" component Speakers. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-fVg2z1Bh7Gl/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?a=&s=0&cc=01&g=76100&id=features_and_ specs&i=113KFCP403

I've also got some Kenwood 6"x9" 6908 speakers on a stealth shelf,
http://www.dealtime.co.uk/xPF-Kenwood_KFC_6908
(These aren't wired up yet, as I've got to make a rack for my amp)

And some Kenwood 17cm 1787 speaker to go in the front doors
http://www.dealtime.co.uk/xPF-Kenwood_KFC_1787
(These aren't installed yet but are going in the door cards).

This is the amp I going to run the door speakers and the 6x9's with
http://www.2020shops.dealtime.co.uk/xPF-Kenwood_KAC_849

Ok thats what I've got at the moment, but I REALLY REALLY want a sub and this is the one I want to get.
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-YjBzV25dqde/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=10&g=67600&I=113W2509&o=p&a=0&c c=01&avf=N&search=

I also want to get this amp to power the Sub as its rated at 300W RMS when bridged which is perfect for the sub.
http://www.epinions.com/615498_Kenwood_100W_x_2_Amplifier_KAC_829/display_~full_specs

I would love to hear anyone and everyone’s opinions on this amp and sub, and my sound system for that mater.

Hope to hear from you.

Brian

Nice install, Think you should go for bigger subs tho, to shift more air which gives ya more bass!!! Ive got 12 speakers in total my lil cinq, kickin out over 2500watts, and my subs are both 12" ...
Three things i would recommend for your install, through trial and error are:
1) a bass controller up on your dash
2) A 1.0 + farad Capacitor power cap for your rear amp
3) Loads Of Dynamat sound proof!!

The size of the sub should depend on what sort of music you listen to, dance style should mean something punchy, 9-10" etc etc. This is what people have taught me on here.

Also, a 1 farad capacitor is a "show off" item and a secondary battery is a more useful addition.

Pghstochaj is right about the sub size, 10" is best suited to punchy bass tracks, 15" to deep long bass tracks, although you can alter the size of your box to vary the bass the sub produces.

That sub and amp seem very well suited btw

Sound proofing your car is a good thing to do, but dynamat is a rip-off! And you will need a lot of sound proofing to do a decent job! But if youve got the money go for it.

And i wouldnt go for a bass controller as all it does too give more bass is to boost the low and high frequencies. Although this gives a more balanced sound at low volumes, when you play your stereo louder it clips the signal which in turn could damage your amp.

If you do want more control over the sound, get a phoenix gold bass cube. Although it sounds like a glorified bass controller, it actually does soooo much more than that and gives an amazing sound and lots of controlability (if thats a word...)

Ok where to start,
Thanks for all the comments, I was beginning to wonder if anyone would reply to my post, but thanks a lot,

I'm glad you say the Amp and Sub are very well suited, as thats what I thought but really wanted a second opinion on the matter.

Ok the car is already soundproofed with Brownbread, it cost me a small fortune but the results are well worth it.

I'm not sure about the bass controller, as like 'chrisunoman' I've heard things about them clipping the signal, but I didn't really know if it was true or not.

I must admit I do listen to a lot of Dance and House music and thats why I decided on a 10" sub as against a 12" or a 15" (If I could get one of them in???). So I thouhgt a relatively powerful 10" sub would probably be the best bet for what I am after.

As far as the Power Cap goes I must admit I was thinking of getting one, but was unsure
a) How to wire it up, and
b) Whether or not I should need one in the first place.

If anyone does have anymore comments on the mater please feel free to make them.

Thanks for your help.

Brian

P.S. 'Cov69' I'd like to see some pictures of your car with the avarage halfords speaker collection contained within it. And I'd like to see where you have managed to shoehorn them into the little car.
I look forward to hearing from you lot.

Everything youve said DJ Bucho seems right, a 10" sub would be more than big enough for your car, and matched with that amp will sound great!

As far as a capacitator goes, you wont notice the difference with one, so unless you just want one to show off then i wouldnt bother.

Ok thanks a lot mate,

but having said that if I'm running two amps will the lights not dim in time to the music when the volume is turned up? especailly with a reasonabley powerful amp and sub combo?

Hmmmm, its 50:50 whether your lights will dim or not. And if they do start to dim its better to get either an uprated/bigger battery or a second battery split-charged than to get a capacitator. Thats just my opinion though, other people might think differently...

I'm just weighing up all of my options but quite a few people seem against Power caps, is there any real reason for this?

A powercap will help if you're running 2 amps. Powercaps provide power faster when it's needed most i.e. heavy bass etc. I'll show you how to wire it in as i've got one in mine:D

Well i got 2 amps in my cinq sporting and the battery has just about died and is losing charge like anything when subs are powered up (they are 2 12") so i think a bigger battery is a good idea. Where have people been putting the second batteries? i have no room in boot coz of subs and amps. i am running 4 6x9s and a graphic equalizer as well as the subs so that will raise the power drain.

Rob

cinq sporting 4 pioneer 6x9's, 2 12" subs, boot neons, flip pioneer head unit, kenwood graphic equalizer, 2 amps. YES ITS LOUD

Most people put their second battery in the boot, but some put it in the engine if theres room. If theres no room in the engine bay, or you dont want to go to the hassle of fitting it there, you should replace your standard battery with an Optima Yellow top (or a Red top if the Yellow top is too steep)

Sorry for not replying asap, hehe ive come back to defend myself.. only kidding. Basically ive gone for a bass controller so i can adjust my bass from the dash, as some tracks sound crap with too much bass and others sound too weak, basically as everyone has said, it depends on the music you listen too, im just too lazy to run round the back and adjust it, plus the controller comes in handy if the police are about ;)
I also installed a power cap as it makes the bass lines more hard and punchy-er, excuse my crappy grammar hehe. I did upgrade my battery and the headlights dimmed at high volume, so i wacked a capacitor in and that sorted that little problem out, although it still doesnt stopp my eyesight going blurry when the systems cranked up tho ;) hehe! The split battery idea is alright, but an expensive fix, as you have to use a split charger, and then uprate the alternator... it isnt worth the hasstle as a powercap from maplins is only £50-£100.

To wire the cap up all you do is feed the main power supply (red wire + ) to the posotive terminal of the cap then to the amp (+). You then just earth the cap to a decent part of the body work (-). Its a simple job to do.
Its easier to buy a cap with a digital display on the top (which basically tells you how many watts is stored in the cap). Then you dont have to mess about charging and discharging, you just plug it in and go!! Plus it looks mint when its on, (for the 5 mins before it automatically turns off hehe) Il post some pics when ive retrimmed my doors.

Rear..

2 x 12" subs in the boot
2 x 6x9" On the rear shelf
2 x 6" speakers on the rear shelf
2 x 1" Titanium Tweeters ont the rear shelf

Front..

2 x Titanium Tweeters on dash
2 x fiat replacement speakers in dash
2 x 5" components in home made door cards

2 amps / Cd Player / 2x legacy Bass Controllers / 1.0 Cap / Uprated Batt...
