DJ man, lookin very nice.... but

question time:

when i finish my install i will b running 2x12" subs from a 860watt 2 channel amp, 2x250 watt 6x9's in the rear quater pannels, and 2x150 watt 4' components in front run off the 4x50 watt headunit

question is do u think i will need a power cap to run it all, or even run a split charge system to save the battery an alternator in front, i think the alternator is on its last legs anyway so might uprate that while i am at it.

however... how do u wire up a split charge system if u think that is the way to go to get decent bass!

OK from what you've told me I understand that it's only just two 12" subs that are being run by an amp (860watt 2 channel), and the 4" components and the 6x9's are being powered by the head unit? Is this correct.

If you've read the rest of this post then their's some controvasy about using powercaps, as somepeople say they are a bit of a cheat, but personally I can't really see anything wrong with them, and I'm going to get one for my system as I think they're pretty good.

In regards to a split charging system, if you're running a single amp powering two 12" subs, I shouldn't think you'd need a split charge system, as a powercap would be just as good and cost a fair bit less. It would also be a lot easier to install, so thats what I'd recommend.

When it comes to wiring up a split charging system, I'm sorry I wouldn't really know where to start, but I'm sure someone on here would be able to help you out with that.

Thats just what I think and anyone who feels different please feel free to have your say.

Hope that help you out mate.

Brian

Ask any racer, any real racer, it don't matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winning's winning!

yea it is just the subs bein run off the amp an the head unit it doin the other 4... it plenty loud enough for me and the sound quality is outstanding!

i was thinkin about upratin the battery an gettin a power cap, if only to stop drainin the battery, i neva play the system with the car not runnin either!

will prob just have to c how it goes, wonder how expensive more powerfull alternators are!?!

Ok first you have probably noticed that any previous pictures that I've posted are nowmissing and un-viewable, this is beacuse they were hosted on my University account and now that I've finished Uni my account has been deleted.

Secondly, the issue with the Ebay fella sending me the wrong amp has now been resolved and he sent me the full amount via paypal plus the cost of posting the amp back to him, so I'm on the look out for a Kenwood KAC-829 amp in good condition, if anyone knows of anyone that has one PLEASE let me know.

Thirdly (and I'd like to say a MASSIVE thankyou to Brickfoot, who once again has producted the goods), anyone who knows Brickfoot will know that he keeps his ears very closely to the ground and if ever there's a deal going down somewhere you can gaurantee that he will be at the front of the que.

Anyway I've been after getting an Auto Acoustics Subbox for my sub (funnyly enough), but the £150 price tag has aways been more than I've been willing to pay for a bit of MDF and fibreglass.
However (and this is where Brickfoot comes in), he knew someone that did have a Seicento and bought one of these very boxes and now has a Golf and the box is no good, so Brickfoot arranged to do a straight swop for a standard box that he got for free, for this AutoAcoustics one, meaning that I got the £150 Auto Acoustics box for FREE, BARGIN OF THE MONTH ALERT! ! !

Picture of the box are shown below.
The Sub isn't in the box yet but just placed in there to show what it looks like.

More updates will follow.
Once again a HUGE thankyou to Brickfoot for sorting out the box, next forum trip out I owe U a drink or two.

nobody knows about that connecting HU with 2x130 + 2x300W p.p. speakers to factory connector ?? will be allright??

If you mean the yellow speaker connectors, then chances are they won't fit on the speakers.

no no, these connectors are fine it's already done,
I'm asking if I use such speakers if it will be allright to connect it to factory POWER connector - in owner's book they wrote if there will be more than 2x30W speakers(or something like this), it should be connected directly to battery through new lead(with fuse of course) - I want to know if its required???
Or if I use a bit powerful fuse (20A instead of factory 15A) and use that factory connector?? Could I burn something ?? :) (u know that cinq in front of lidl.... :D )

Btw., is it a bad idea use two pairs of 17cm speakers(200W PP) connected parallel together, instead of one pair of 6x9 ??????

Thanks

Hiya,

Im a car audio fitter, basically to get the best sound quality (starting from the front)

Wire audio and power wires down different sides of the car (less interference), use the biggest power wire you can afford, keeping the length to a minimum, Kenwood are reasonable the Pioneer DEH-P8400MP is possibly one of the better head units used lots 3-4 years ago for comp cars, the bass is clear and controlled with brilliant HPF controllability.

It is better (if you plan of subs etc) to use the best quality front component speakers you can afford, use high HPF settings with a sub (sub supplies bass and bass is not very directional), use a reasonable rear speaker (remember you dont sit in the back).

In my opinion in a small car with a sub woofer 6x9s are a waste or time and money as the sub woofer distorts them, if you must have them make sure you have a stiff well deadened shelf and port it! good 6x9's with a small amp sound very good.

Orion H2's are a very good sub, but i agree your proposed sub and amp are well suited to the application.

Capacitors are some what of a myth im afraid, you are better as said with a secondary battery. Also keep away from Sony, they look good but are overly expensive, alpine and pioneer speakers are very good cheapish substitutes, genesis, phoenix gold and infinity perfects are superb.

again make sure every thing is earthed well, use as lower gauge wire as you can find/afford and of the smallest length.

Hope this helps, your set up sounds good mate,

Rob,
