to insure or not to insure

hi folks some advice please

the time is fast approaching for my first car. i am 17 and am hoping to do my test very very soon. been hunting around for a bravo 1.4 and i got some quotes they ranged from £2000-£3000 for an R reg. THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE. my dad has company insurance and is going to take out new insurance for himself and me as a named driver its around £600 for both of us.

BUT..........
i have got a set of 17" wheels to go on (they cost me £70 just need touching in (not stolen) and a rockford fosgate system that got delivered thismorning )))))))))))) (£350)

my dad wants me to inform the insurance about my mods. can i inform them but not have them actually insured ???????????? also is it going to make my insurance rocket if i do inform them ?????

do any of you guys have your stuff insured ????? as you can imagion i will proably get pulled a bit by the local boys in blue will they do me ????

audio equpment will be covered up to the maximum on the policy regardless of what its worth.average is 300-500.declare all mods as otherwise you are not covered

they will be insured as there part of the car,you agree what your car is worth as a whole before taking out the policy so it doesnt matter whats fitted.insurance want/need to know all mods fitted to find out if theres a higher risk of theft(stereo etc) or crashing (engine mods) for your quote.you are going to pay for the mods anyway just by declaring them but you wont add to your policy

got my alloys on insurance i said they were worth £0 the woman said that there would still be a charge because it makes it look nicer to crooks and it makes it more likely to get nicked, the minium was £40 for wheels valued from £0 to £250 so i said they are worth £250 then

isnt audio equipment only covered if its factory standard.

i have got seperate audio cover for all my gear, it costs me £12 a month and my install has been valued at around the £1000 mark

last time i asked for audio cover(adrian flux) i was told they wouldnt do seperate cover but what i had was covered to £500

if i have my stuff insured seperate is my insurance void if i do not declaire it to them

its with fire bond (i will check), i have told my insurance that its insured with another company and all they do is note it down, if someone breaks into my car and nicks my stereo, i claim off normal insurance for the window and locks or whatever and my stereo equipment from fire bond.

I'm insured with morethan. I have notified them of my modifications and my premium has not altered as it does not increase the performance of the vehicle. However, if it were stolen or smashed due to my fault, they would only replace as standard and not the bodykit. Therefore my mods are declared but not insured.

yeah my mods are declared but doesnt make a difference cause all CIS are bothered about is whether there is an increase in the engine capacity or u try to make your car look like something else, i.e a nova or something.

i did try to blag NOS and a turbo for nothing extra but they still aint got back to me bout itB), cause you are not actually increasing the engine capacity IMO mine would still be a 1.1.

as wimmy says they will only replace with standard parts if i do have a bump, i think the ones that charge you extra will replace it like for like

Most insurers will insure tyhe ICE as part of the car, Tesco give you £1k of ICE for free, you dont have to declare it either, just have proff of purchase.

Always insure ALL your mods that are installed and not covered automatically, if you crash and they send an investigator, the investigator WILL find a reason not to pay out.
