New to the forum but really could do with some help.
I have recently bought a mk2 Y'plate Punto, with the standard Blaupunkt 'Highpower' tape player and 100w subwoofer but want to uprade to something decent.
I already have a Sony CDX-T67 6 disc changer and am thinking of buying a Sony CDXF7500 headunit. Where and how should I fit the cd-changer?
Then I'm stuck on what to do for speakers. I am on a limited budget and intend to do things in stages.
I would ideally like to be able to use the existing wiring and just change the door panel and rear speakers (what speakers to you suggest ?) but think that I should look at getting an amp to power some new speakers in the doors and a sub.
Does anyone have any views, if so what equipment do you suggest ???

without hijacking your thread i wanna ask the same question... just got a 2001 yreg punto and went to fit my old head unit..a shark mp3 player...

hi there, unless some idiot has chopped the wires out of your punto. there should be 2 standard iso connectors large square blocks with 8 wires in each. one is the power block one is for speakers these connect up to the standard iso conectors on the back of the stereo. also there will be another block made up of 3 diff colours with just a few wires in it. this block you just leave lose you do not need to conenct up. its only there so the onboard computer can check if the code is in the original radio. as for the arial there are 2 types of connector sounds like yours has the other sort wich is a hole in the back of the stereo ?????? if it is then you can buy a small adaptor to change the type in your car to the type you need i can remember buying one from a car audio shop for about £5 about ayear ago

heers had ahunt around and found the ariel convertor for £1.99 from maplin. but the cables at the back do not fit. the shape of the conectors (ie the lip) is in a different position. one is to the left and the other centred so they dont match [?] could it be non iso and while my previous adaptor links might do the job its not wired at one end so is it a pain to wire up ?

hmm i have a punto mk2 radio in my hand as i type this. and what you say about the lips is correct the one with the lip to the left is the power one and goes at the bottom the other with the central lip does the speakers and is the top one. they are deffantly iso connectors, and according to maplin site the radio you have got is also iso. so it should just plug straight in. i put a diff radio in mine and just plugged straight in. i knwo this is stupid question but are you sureit dont fit :D what shapes does the back of your stereo need???

hey you have everything you need to make you stereo work. i am ssuming the pics you have put are teh connectors on the back of your stereo if they then that is fine they are correct. the white does all the speakers so 4 speakers 2 wires each makes 8 pins just slot the white connector in your car into the white one in pic. and the black one you do not need all the pins. it depends on what functions your steroe supports. so just plug teh black one in the car into the black one on ya stereo. i can tell you exactly what pins you are missing if you wnat but you dont realy need to know and i cant be bothere to type em lol. the only thing you need is the aerial adaptor and then your stereo will work. i assumme you have atcually tried it???

yup did try it but the connectors on the stereo (shown above) did not go into the cable leads on the car, the lips were not the same position on the car, butill try again 2morrow and pick up an ariel convertor.

if not ill take some [pics of the car leads and you can have a look at them.

cheers

mmm its working.......but i had to plug the back into the white and the white into the black ?!?!
is this gonna short anything ? [8)]

the wires are different colours on either connector but the shape of the connectors on the car was the opposite of the stereo. any one heard of this before and should i disconnect it now before it blows up ?

the stereo doesnt fit tight into the gap either but the iso cage is to big when on it. maybe its the cables at the back ,but ive tried to move them to the side as much as possible.

Fascia also doesnt fit tight. i got it from halfords B) and its sales its for MK1 years but they said it will fit mine fine.
photos coming shortly

heres the cables from the car :

cables from stereo connected to them:

and the head unit fitted (notice gaps on facia :( )
headunitfitted.jpg

well it works (not sure how) and it'll stay unless anyone advises me otherwise( but not just if you think it lookscrap :) )

if it works then dont panic it wont blow up. if the connectors were wrong way round then it would not work at all. as the head unit would not be recieveing any power. the facia adapotor should fit perfectly, well at least mine does. is it in tight so that you cant just pul it out?

i think if i remember this right you have to put the facia adaptor in first then push the cage in bending the lil tabs so cage cant be pulled out then the radio the cage was quite tight going in on my car. you said the cage is to big does that mean you havent got the cage in ???

by looking at the pic of teh connectors the reason the white one looks liek its got less wires is it looks like its only wired up for front speakers. has your car got rear speakers some mk2 puntos havent.

finally if it works and you dont mind a loose fit then keep it and enjoy :) other wise you will have to spend more money :(

only got 2 speakers :(...yet gonna get some rear speakers but after ive had a clifford alarm fitted. thats the next expense area.

didnt put the cage on as it seemed to tight and didnt wann scratch/break anything. maybe ill have another go.
it is possible to pull the whole thing out but i remove the face so hopefully it will be just left alone as they will assume it is all secure.

do you not think it strange that the red purple cables connect to the ones with many wires ie not matching ?

jsut found out a guy i work with used to do cars up for sound offs and shows so gonna get him to have a look 2morrow.

cheers for all the help...ive got sound at last !
