I am going to replace the factory radio cassette player in my 04 1.2 active with a new headunit and was liking the idea of a motorised screen HU, but with the current positioning of the radio being at the very top of the dash, would this not be possible? I was thinking it might look a bit stupid with the screen sticking up above the dash. Or maybe I could mount it further down the dash but this would require work :(. Any advice?

Cheers

IMO, HU's with motorised screens look better higher up on the dash, and it also makes it easier to use them. I'm in the middle of ripping out the vents of my Mk1 to put my dvd hu in there, and in that position it's much easier to control it, as it's closer to the line of sight while driving (especially if it's a touch screen).

Single din hu's with screens are pretty cheap now, and it opens up a range of options down the line to expand it- like rear camera/console/nav/ipod. But try to get one with at least a partly removable faceplate- if some charver sees one in a un alarmed punto they'll go for it- my car was alarmed but still didn't stop the ****s :bang:

Getting one with adjustable angle is a pretty good idea too, that'll help you avoid glare/stop it from fouling the dash or anythin near it. Just make sure the plod don't see you driving about with your screen out (n)

Which unit were you thinking of getting?

I'm quite liking the Clarion VRX868RVD, or any equivalent of a similar brand and spec for around £400-£500.
Any recommendations?

Looks like a very nice unit, and you can get a good deal with a tv tuner here -but it doesn't say anything about a removable face plate  . I've had a Pioneer P5700DVD for a while now, and it's a good unit, picture is fantastic- and I really enjoy the 'loud' function :D But, it's a little old now, and they've just brought out a new one, the P5900DVD.

Might be a idea to get a quote from your insurance company too, as if you don't declare it, and someone nicks it, that'll be £500 down the drain and a new window to pay for. (n) :bang:
