aux input on sony head unit?

hi, i have a sony headunit, model: *hmm ahem..cough* (ok, i cant remember!). It supports cd/md changers and has a twin phono input on the back for use with the changer. I want to wire something else into it, via these phono cables but the headunit wont let me select that input unless there is a cd/md changer plugged into the control port bit.

Long shot, but does anyone know how i can fool the headunit into letting me select it without having to buy a changer?

Hi,

Unilink ( the name for the Sony comms protocol) is a very complicated ( but powerful) beast. It is technically possible to fool it, but time consuming I would say.

It is not simply a case of connecting two pins together , like on a kenwood.

Try typing 'Unilink discussion board' into google if you want some info to try some DIY.

Sony also do a range of input adapters with a variety of functions, some allow multiple changers on one port, others optical inputs , some USB.

I used to have the XA-C30, which allowed you to connect 3 changers, i believe the one you might need is an XA-300 ( or something )

i had no idea unilink was quite so powerful... i can see its time to tinker with PICs and build me an interface.. and then maybe add a pc to the car.. simple plugin for winamp..and ta-da.. my headunit becomes a huge mp3 player

And i forgot to mention, this is important!

I think some alpine have, a very similar looking plug to the unilink connector It is NOT the same.

The alpine you can get an aux in lead, but unlike the Sony where the Audio is sent separately via phono's with the alpine, its one cable audio sent through that.



I don't have first hand exerience of this but I read it somewhere whilst researching this very subject, i think I have my facts right on this though?

My new Kenwood has an AUX phono in and can be selected via the source menu. Best do a trade-in

this kenwood pin connection..... what pins do you connect in order to be able to connect something to the inputs? CHeers

it's connectors are the same as the pre-outs, all you do is connect the source to the aux connectors, then select the "aux" feature on the headunit and it's sorted! Ideal for using the headunit as a sound source for tv screens and playstations etc

If you have a Kenwood headunit with changer control, but not this aux function as mentioned above, there is another way.

If you happen to have a kenwood changer cable lying around you could:

Connect pins 10 and 11 together
Connect pins 4 and 12 together

7 is now audio ground
5 and 9 are left and right audio

attach some phonos and you are away!

Erm Yes it does! I checked it twice Mister! it has a CD changer connecter and AUX IN which is seperate to the cd Changer!
