Punto (Mk1) Sump Replacement

After you have removed the old sump and oil is still dripping down you can prepare everything for new sump to be installed.

I found it easier to remove crankshaft pulley, gearbox metal plate and exhaust manifold when fitting new sump, you also gain more space.


Also remove bottom exhaust holder bolt so exhaust can be lowered even more and completely out of the way.


Now bring your battery drill and wire brush and start removing old gasket sealant from engine block, paying extra attention to corners

After all gasket sealant is removed, get a cloth and start wipping till surface is completely clean, after that spray it with carb cleaner and wipe with cloth again, repeat it few times till cloth is clean when you wipe the surface. Try to remove sealant from inside bolt holes in block.
