My boot release has stopped working and now i can only open it by dropping down the rear seats and using the override button. Has anyone else had this problem and is it common? Any ideas what might be causing it? Thanks.

I had a feeling this was the one thing on my Grande to go wrong - really is a bad design oversight. If anyone from Fiat is reading this do what VW do and incorporate a handle/release into the rear badge.

The bmw 1 series also has the badge release/pull... test drove it :D

as for the boot not realising id say take it to the dealers as itll most probably be covered under warranty, could be a fuse blown? or maybe the whole mechanism just gave up? does it not open by both the key and dash button?

let us know what happens.

I had the same problem, a trip to the dealer, a few free coffees and an hour in front of the Tv in the waiting area watching Homes under the hammer and it was sorted. When I interegated them afterwards I was told the solenoid that triggers the release mechanism had gone open-circuit.

Our car is a Jan-06 55 reg 1.4 Active Sport 3 door.

We also have the problem of the boot refusing to unlock (either with the plip key or the button on the dash). However the fault is intermittent, and seems to put itself right after a few hours or days, such that I've been too lazy so far to take it to the dealer to get it fixed. Also, no doubt if I did, it would be working then!

I was wondering if this fault could be related to the problem that some other people seem to have had with water leaking into the tailgate, although I have seen no evidence of water pouring out of ours like they have. Perhaps there could be a small amount of water getting on to the solenoid somehow though?

Spot on,take it to get renewed as water ingress has occured & connector will no doubt be rotten.

Thanks T14086.
Since I am a bit remote from both my nearest dealers, it might be worth having a look inside the panel myself first for traces of water.
After all, it's no good fixing the lock problem unless the water leak is fixed as well, and they might need a bit of guidance.
And if I can do my own diagnosis it might only need one visit to fix.

What's your feeling about the likeliest source of the water leak - Rear wiper, high-level brake light or the door skin circumferential joint itself?

Mentioned water ingress at my first service earlier this month - no fault found by the dealer. Mmm - that's solved then :bang:

Water in Boot

I think this has been already posted, but i had a read through it and no answer or soloution was given. Thread closed.

Got my GP last yr noticed by December my boot was 5 inch deep in water in the spare wheel compartment, and the boot carpet getting mouldy. Called my local Fiat dealer - Brinkley in Wolverhampton, got the car checked out, they said the rear window needs to be re-sealed and had to await aproval from Fiat. 1 week later the GP went to the dealer for this to be done, they had the car for the whole day, said the car was now sorted and will not leak into the boot again - oh and also they put the old mouldy rear boot carpet back in - was supposed to be cleaned but was still dirty and full of marks where the mould was. Great!

Well you guessed it! The boot is full of water again in the spare wheel compartment, the boot carpet is getting even more mouldy and its is going up the inside part of he carpet actually in the boot! has anyone else resolved this or returned there GP to fiat? I would lke to add also the few other prob i have had, paint work in places you dont see is patchy, trim inside popping off and not fitting properly.

I will be calling Fiat in the morning to book it in again, but i do feel these probs are taking he shine of the car and making me want to return it, what about ater efects of the water all over the boot? rust etc. :(

Any coments or answers would be great.

Cheers :)

Well just got the car back. Thought I would give it the pressure washer treatment as it needed a clean.

Boooooommmmm full of friggin water no change what so ever!!!!

Rang the dealer straight away to get "Oh ok, need to book you back in then".

This is the third time now that my car has gone into the dealer (Research Garage Nuneaton) and im still no closer to a fix. Im pretty sure they could of at least threw a bucket of water at it! If that was not bad enough I was left with sealent all over my back window, the mechanic also left me a lovely sealent finger print on my door as well!

Tomorrow moring I will be on the phone to Fiat UK to complain about this issue. TBH its takin the p*ss. 2 months this has gone on for now and im starting to lose my sense of humour!

Seems like we are both in the same boat Captain. Just had mine at research, and spoke to the service manager (after they put a dent in the boot lid for me:mad:    ) and he said he has faxed Fiat as a few have been in with the same problem. Guess thats us then, lol

How did they do that? Any photos?

No pics at ghe moment, looks like a screw was over tightend on the mech to hold the wiper in so there is a small (but VERY annoying) dent coming from inside the bootlid that shows up when you look at it!!!

Captain, did u have any luck getting yours sorted?
