Am i the only one that is upset it this department as compared to the corsa cdti which does nearly 60mpg 10 more then the grande and is cheaper to get tax. But i would never buy the corsa as the grande looks much better i just wished they could have but that engine in the grande.

This might seem obvious but the way the car is driven and whether the air con is on would affect fuel economy, right? I remember Richard Hammond did an experiment on Brainiac a few years ago and showed hammering the accelerator had a poorer fuel economy then say cruising at the relative constant speed (no surprises there).

And yes, GP is better looking than Corsa hands down :slayer:

Suppose your right but i spoke to a ecu tunning and said they could improve it alot with no gain of power but i would want the extra power

it's not just air con, it's everything!!! the radio on will use more petrol, as will the heater/air con... lights... everything that will take charge from the battery will in turn cause the alternator to work harder, therefor using more petrol... :) hand like you said, a heavy right foot won't help either!!!!!

interesting what you said about the tuning company... most decent remaps will improve fuel consumotion, whether its running the same, 140... 150... 160... 170... 180... 190... etc!! :) might only be a few mpg, but its still more power and more mpg than before! :)

Another reason why the 1.9 Sporting has a lower economy is the size of its engine: 1.9 vs 1.3, 1.4 or 1.5 of most other supermini diesels. I know it's obvious, but people sometimes forget this and bunch all diesels together.

When I bought my car I was told that my milage would be around 35mpg in town vs 50mpg for the 1.3 diesel GP.

So if you want the power and the performance you have to pay, its always this way.

But what are the performance figures. Surely if you bought the Corsa you would be complaining "Why do I get x less bhp when I only get 10mpg more?"

On two trips from Oldham to Plymouth (305 miles) I got 57.4 mpg on the 1st trip (with 1000 miles on the clock ) and 58.3 the 2nd time with 12000 miles on the clock, thats cruise set at 64mph in 6th all the way,600 miles on 1 tank.I was pretty pleased with that.

that quite good, considering it would use more diesel when cruise control was on as it would plummit the accelerator everytime it droped below 64.

nice speed, i will have to try it when i get it! :D

64 mph is just slightly quicker than trucks can go,plus at 70mph fuel economy drops to 48mpg

your car looks great mate in your avatar... have you swapped the wheels?

i would be quite happy to sit at 64mph on the motorway if i was going on a long journey... doesn't mean you can't gun it if you get a bit bored!! :D

Firstly, there's already been a running discussion on fuel economy which you've obviuosly not seen https://www.fiatforum.com/grande-punto/63984-what-kinda-mpg-you-guys-getting.html
Secondly, the fuel economy figures quoted by the manufacturers usually bear little relationship to what normal driving gives you. Thirdly, you can't have loads of power and great fuel economy, it's a matter of the laws of physics. Fourthly, you can get extra power and slightly better fuel consumption, like for like, with a remap but if you use the extra power you will use more fuel. Laslty, if you prefer the look and build quality of the average Vauxhall then you can probably get treatment for it :D

Hi Minnnt, yes they are TSW catalunya's 18" with 225/40/18 yokohama AVS sport tyres,I am a driving instructor and the original alloys are not suitable for me,on the TSW's the spokes are inset away from the kerb and the tyres have a big kerbing lip ( about 9mm ) from the edge of the rim.I also have the " need for speed " front spoiler on and now the novitec rear apron, this week I'm having the novitec exhaust put on ( when it arrives from Germany ) with 2 80mm round pipes each side,4 in total fitted so its going to look the dogs b's,I will post pics when its done, with the rear apron the rear of the car is the same height of the ground as the front skirt and side skirts,it looks mint.john
