Technical Hi everyone - Punto problems...

T14086 the problems i have had are:
1. brakes sqeeling/grinding.
2. noisy fan.
3. plastic trim lifting.
4. water ingress.(tailgate)
5. rear demister not working.
6. rattling exhaust/slight blowing

DEALERSHIP RESPONSE;
1. known for a long time.(replace brake pads)
2. happens on every gp
3. same on every gp
4. design to do that
5. replacing whole back window
6. sounds like that because gp exhaust have a small hole for drainage.

I have had 3 new cars in the past; punto, polo and a c3.
Other than a recall on the c3, i have had no problems in the past.
Do you still think these are teething problems? or could this been down to
bad workmanship, or maybe a dealership fobbing me off?
Could you give me any answers to points; 2,3,4 and 6?
I have only done 285 miles. Hopefully this will be the end of the problems
but i wont hold my breath.
Would YOU BE HAPPY.
I await your reply.

1. brakes sqeeling/grinding - requires modified pads/spring kit. These are in demand but stocks are building up (lot of GP's sold!) and getting done as fast as possible.
2. noisy fan - personally not came across this but I understand a few others have.It might not be the fan as could be foreign object in housing or housing itself, fault needs to be confirmed.
3. plastic trim lifting - again reported by many other GP owners...simply get a new one from dealer.
4. water ingress.(tailgate) - again reported by other GP owners, how bad is it? is water leaking into car? There are drain holes in the tailgate.
5. rear demister not working - Not a known fault,is garage 100% sure this is fault?
6. rattling exhaust/slight blowing - Again no reports of this, but 188 punto also had this drain in silencer.

See its easy....we all help each another here and share information. If you get a chance write some of the things you like about the GP,might make you feel better;)

Would I be happy.......inconvient yes I agree but the above list is nothing to the endless list I got (still ongoing!) when I brought a focus!

Hi,

Sporting is tops to drive, just got a few rattles from the trim,

First one is on the airbag trim on the windscreen pillar drivers side, looks a bit lose so vibrates when you drive, second is in the headlining above the drivers head, sounds like its come "unstuck", when I push it the rattle stops.

As it's only a week o;d are these things the dealer will sort?

Cheers

Hi guys,

first time i've had a chance to get on here for a while, so thanks for all your replies.

The car is going in for the plastic trim fixing on Tuesday, so that is good news. But Benfield Ford have been fobbing me off with answers to things, and eventually told me it would be better to take the car to a Fiat dealer. This is fully understandable, just wish they would have told me that when they told me they could sort everything out!

So... As soon as the plastic is fixed on Tuesday, going to drive it straight to the Fiat dealer and get them to look at the other problems.

1) The squeaking breaks that is had for ages.
2) The most worrying new problem. A knocking sound from the steering when driving at lower speeds. Only just started this week. Am I right in thinking this could result in a new steering rack?
3) The stereo cannot pick up AM radio.

Just want the car to go into the garage for however long it takes, and to come out right. I still absolutely love the car, the ride and handling, refinement, interior, etc etc. The only thing I wish it did have was a more powerful engine, but my insurance would have gone up even more!

Cheers, Tom. :)

Tom (?)....

brakes (as reported before) new pads/dampner kit available.
Knocking noise sounds like lower column.. dealers know about this.
Radio...either something simple or req's new radio.

Let us know how you get on (y)

Thanks very much Sir. At least the dealer will know what I am talking about hopefully when I take it in! :)

Hi guys.

Well the bit of plastic trim was fixed on my Punto this morning in about half an hour. The dealer told me if I take it back tomorrow, the valeter will spend a couple of hours getting rid of the white paint marks free of charge (y) so this time tomorrow, my Punto should be looking fantastic again! Then to give it a damn good clean...

Drove straight to Clemo Fiat at Cleckheaton to book it in for work on the brakes and steering, but turns out I am starting a new job next week so simply don't have any time to get it sorted. Will have to live with it for a few more weeks!

Asked the service guy @ Clemo about the recall on the GP, mentioning i'd read it on the internet. His reply ' You read alot of things on the internet, we haven't been told anything about it. '

Just picked up the Punto from the dealer, the valeter has done a cracking job, looks fabulous again!

I wish all dealers had people like you working in them mate, would make things so much easier for us owners!
