Fiat response "Engine Oil"

Right, just thought I'd update averyone on the correct oil to use in 1.4 16v petrol engine. I phoned Fiat Head Office on Wed and told them about conflicting advice from dealers re correct engine oil to use in this engine, guy I spoke to was unsure so gave me a case No and referred it to Head Office technical. They phoned my mobile today (y) (Very impressed with service) and chap I spoke to said that "Selenia K" is the oil to use in this engine, the "Performa" being more suitable for the high performance engines, so I'm gonna go with that advice, after all that's what the manual says and if any probs should develop as a result of wrong oil I'm sure Fiat will have to come good.

Car just turned 1010 miles and delighted with it in every respect. Wife still trying to get to grips with Blue & Me and not completely mastered the climate control yet, so I feel another in car lesson coming on this weekend, she was explaining Blue & Me to a friend the other day and managed to phone our son who was balancing units on his head doing a bit of diy, a bit embarrasing for her as her friend could hear irate son addressing dear mother as a numpty. Got to say she loves the car and now rates it better than the Focus, so that is no bad thing. Fuel economy on computer showing average of approx 32.7 mpg.

I was going to merge this post with one of your previous posts...........but its such a good honest post highlighting some good points of the GP insteard of moaning...well done, thanks & safe happy motoring (y)

Yeah, the blue&me does take a few weeks (months in my case!) to get to grips with and remember all the words that are used....god we're getting old!

I'm glad that you like the car......I think it's nice too......what is it that you prefer over the 'Focus'? that's a great car and in the sector above so I'd be interested......Oh and get some bloody 'Performa' oil.....!
I've done 3000 miles now and it has occassionally needed slightly topping up
best to top up with the same oil in the engine, I think.
When was your one manufactured?.....always interested....... you can find the date sticker for the engine build on the left hand side of our engine going downwards.....car will have been made about 3 days later.....the main build sticker is found following the back of the engine wall down to the axle...you'll see a big sticker with the model and options in Italian and the actual build date and time......mines 10 october at 11 am.
Glad you're having fun with it kiddo.

Just read your post regarding the oil......thanks for the 'pm' mate...............so I've been given some 'bum' advice by 3 main dealers and been putting it in me car.....??!!

I don't know if it was bum advice you were given by the 3 main dealers Superboy as they may well know something that the chap at Fiat isn't aware of. When you mentioned about the Performa oil I had to get to the bottom of it as I would be inclined to go with your thinking so the best way in my opinion was go to the top :D As "K" is stipulated in handbook and no addendum came out since Fiat will have to stand good for any issues surrounding oil. I doubt very much if there will be any that will arise though.

Superboy, that's some good info you have given there re build date & time, I'll take note of it and pit it in with handbook, will have to wait till tomorrow though as we have another day of rain in Hell Island (still not managed to wash & polish it yet). As regards preferring GP over Focus I just feel it offers so much equipment for the price over the Focus, it's quieter and comfort is better in my opinion as we had leather in our Focus which I never really liked. Maybe a slight drop in pick up, Focus was 1.8 though, Focus have problems that crop up from time to time too and some of them have continued down through model ranges for years with Ford making replacement parts rather than curing problem at factory. Wife now loves the GP and just says it is so much easier to drive than the Focus, reversing sensors are also a great asset. CAN'T PRAISE THE CAR HIGHLY ENOUGH!
:D

yeh i just got 1000 miles up 2 days ago. at over 37mpg though. and thats the (thirsty) 1.4 16v. same was yours? how did you manage 32.7? lol im 21 and should be raggin it, but ive controleld myself and let it ease in. i think 37 aint bad considering i havnt taken it on a motorway yet.

Have also just racked up the first 1,000 miles. Totally trouble free, comfortable and reliable. Have read other threads about squeeky breaks, water ingress, problems with electrics and various bits of trim.
Havent experienced any of these, even got a phone call from the dealer where we bought the car (Arnold Clark Allison St) asking if everything was ok and if we were happy with the car.
It looks great drives nicely power steering maybe a bit light, but nothing we arent used to now, only the 1.2 but it seems to be loosining up a bit now.
Not the fastest of the mark but acceleration mid-range is pretty good. Build quality in general seems to be comparable with any other manafacturer.
To summarise very very happy :D with the gp so far, no regrets about buying it what so ever, any one reading this thinking about buying one,i would have no hesitation in telling you to go ahead you will have not only one of the best looking cars on the road but a well built and reliable one as well.

Well done fiat! :) :)

In answer to Superboys questions about build dates, my dates are:
Engine build - 13/07/06 - 15.52
Main Build - 25/08/06 - 03.41
If anyone else wants to check their stickers I'd advise them to do it asap after buying car as lower one will soon get crudded up. As far as petrol consumption (yeh i just got 1000 miles up 2 days ago. at over 37mpg though. and thats the (thirsty) 1.4 16v. same was yours? how did you manage 32.7?)Quote by Grandemike. Majority of our running is 5 miles to work and home again and town driving and up till now that has been all we have been doing with no long runs, so I feel that the mpg is about right, also we have a lot of hills to negotiate. "Performa" oil, I would think it can only be better for the engine, just possibly a bit OTT as Fiat don't think the engine needs it. Maybe T14086 could give his opinion on this. Enjoy your car. (y)

Selenia K is stated in manual & on technical sheets so I would have no reason to not use 'K'.Lets us remember these are not 'high performance' engines, using Performa wont hurt but I suspect little if no benefits.

I'd be more interested in keeping that oi llevel topped up as new cars can get through a fair bit of oil even in first few months.I'd suggest weekly or at most 2 weekly oil level check.

Thanks for that T14086, I'm sure that will answer grandemikes' question. I knew you would come up trumps. (y)
