hello, im not really sure how to use this forum thing. but i have a problem wih my fiat and im not sure what to do.
Right, i have a grande punto, 6 months old, 4,000 miles.
i have noticed that when the car has been stood a while it seems to choke to a start, sounding like a clapped out old banger, it sounds like it doesnt want to start, if u get my drift??
This doesnt seem to be as much of a problem if u wait a few seconds after initially turning the key before starting the engine?? i wait for a light to go out basically and then start the car, the light is a warning light i think. what might be wrong with the car? i have been to the garage i got it from 3 times and they say they cant find anything wrong, this upsets me as im a student and have spend all my money on this car and now its doing this!
Also sometimes when i start it is sounds like something rattles, similar in sound to an exhaust rattle, EXCEPT i know it isnt the exhaust because the car only rattles like once it has been stood a few hours, no rattle noise is heard when driving. this confuses me
also i have a squeaky clutch pedal, again i have been to the garage with this, they keep lubricating it but in days its squeaking again, does anyone know of anything i can do? please im really stuck! :bang:

I had a 10yr old Honda C90 when I was a student........and everyone else thought I was well off!!

modern cars have electric fuel pumps so it normal to wait a few seconds after turning ignition on whilst the pump primes up if the car has been sitting a while, it will make a ticker ticker domph sound

Yeh my GP's like that as well - I wouldn't worry too much about it.

If it is one of the diesels you have to wait until the heater plugs do their work before starting the engine. This is indicated by an amber light on the dash with a coil looking icon. When this goes out you may start the car.

I had a squeaky clutch pedal, which I mentioned to the dealers - and they applied some white grease. This didn't seem to make any immediate difference.

For some reason this seemed to occur after I have been driving for some time - and was more noticeable when the clutch was depressed relatively slowly - eg engaging gear in order to park at the end of a journey.

On 2 or 3 occasions I tried redistributing some of the excess grease (using a cocktail stick) to try to ensure it was forced into all of the surfaces where contact occurs. Eventually the squeaking (actually it sounded rather more like groaning) went away.

Your problem may not be the same as the one I had - but I hope this helps.

its a 1.2 petrol, and yeah the clutch squeak/groan sounds the same as u describe it (andrew 56) hopefully it will just stop then. i wundared if it was wearing in or something, just have to see how it goes i guess :(
thank you all :)

Unlike other diesels i have owned you really do need to wait for the glow plug light to go out otherwise it will not start straight away and chugs and smokes into life like an old transit van

I studied Nuclear Physics, I loved my classes,
I had this crazy teacher, he wore dark glasses,
I did ok, got good grades,
The futures so bright I gotta wear shades.
:D

i was told the starting problem was a software update was needed....well thats what my dealership told me when i told them my car wouldnt start and when it did it sounded like it had a bucket of nails under the hood/
