Technical Water in boot lid? Grande Punto Active Sport

If you do work work on this vehicle everyday you must be a very busy man what with all the common faults;)

No not really,no more faults than any other car.Infact now the initial teething troubles have been ironed out we see very few come in now for faults but are seeing the first lot coming in for services with no problems.

My previous Punto didnt drain water out of the tailgate when i opened it, nor does my Seat, nor did my Polo, Corsa, Escort, Mazda...shall i go on?
If you want,my reply was in answer to....."I do not accept that a car can be designed for water to pass through the inner skin (anywhere), it will rust."

This is not normal. And as i previously mentioned if this is normal there is no way in Hell Fiat would have changed a guys Tailgate knowing it was working 100% fine. Its hard enough to get them to fix a fault they DO admit to and know about!!!

Obviously you have made up your mind on the basis of someones elses car from a 'whatcar' forum so there really is little point in me going on,despite the fact that the whole story is not known & you seem adamant to accuse Fiat of knowing of faults & not admitting they exist. The fact I attend Fiat quality meetings,am up to date on any faults, talk to other garages on a daily basis obviously means nothing!

How can i sit on the internet and check out several (not just whatcar) internet sites and read comments from lots and lots of people all stating that they are having problems with water trapped in the tailgate of there GP. (As well as people repying to this thread saying they are also having the same problem) However you attend Fiat quality meetings are to date on any faults, talk to other garages on a daily basis but this fault is unknown?!?

You must be attending the wrong meetings and talking to the wrong garages my friend as i spoke to a Fiat Specialist today and he said Fiat ARE aware of the fault of water collecting in the tailgate. Hey that must make it a common fault right!?

You may try to play the common faults down as mere teething problems but they are not. They exist, and too many of them and they shouldn't. People like Donnie Darko and Fraggle and myself do not pay thousands of pounds for a car that develops common faults within weeks. It's not acceptable. Getting a new car is exciting and should be enjoyable not a right pain the the friggin arse with the car going back to the dealer ever week! So forgive us if we sound peeved off but so would you be.

Now can we let sleeping dogs lie and concentrate on getting to the bottom of this problem as i wanna get it fixed and hopefully help the others out there that also have this problem to get theres fixed too.(y)

Firstly........'tolittlekingdom',please read my posts, they were in response to your inaccurate description of water not being in any part of a car.

Secondly......

Please dont accuse me of trying to play down any potential faults...may I point you to the sticky 'common faults' thread that I started for the benefit of GP owners and potential GP owners.
What I will also do is use my position to correctly report any dealings/problems I have came across and as to this date there have been reports of water leaks at the tailgate but not what you describe.

All cars have initial teething problems when they are released that no amount of pre-production testing could forsee.I have worked for many manufactuers & am very familiar and am involved with new product reported faults...to say this only happens with Fiat is a laughable comment.

I prefer to report/read about the facts when they are known, not before or after as some people will no doubt jump to conclusions.

Grande punto water in tailgate

I have suffered with this problem on 06 plate 1.4 sport and despite recieving letter from dealer and fiat uk saying this is normal and two botched repairs one to wiper gromet and second by applying silicone sealant to spoiler and high level brake light.I had to threaten rejection of the car before they finally replaced the tailgate and problem is now sorted this however is not the end of the story this vehicle has visited dealer 15 times spending a total of 28 days in the dealership and also broke down recently due to frozen air flow sensor which is also due to low mileage covered by this vehicle.I am now in the process of rejecting this vehicle for the second time due to poor quality and awaiting finance companies response i was told the other day that fiat stood for fix it again tony and in my case this is certainly true any advice or help would be appreciated.

Soon to be included in new Q & A in the GP section.

I've got the same problem taken it up with Fiat so sick of all the problems I've had with this car! Also noticed it's not been added to Known faults/problems.

I decided against putting it in the known faults sticky until a cure is found (which I am now aware of & will be testing if it works next week) as this sticky will soon become a Q & A sticky on the GP.

Just been made aware of this by my wife who has just read this thread ..so out I have been and opened the tailgate ..Whoooooooosh !!!! my jimjams are now soaking  just phoned the dealer to ask them about it and they say they are NOT aware of this  Have you read the service bulletins said my dearest ? Yes there's nothing in them about this  well it got plenty of coverage on Fiat forum she said hint hint ;) car now booked in for the 28th (y) :D

Have finally recieved response from dealer and finance company on my rejection of vehicle which they have declined. There was no help from fiat customer relations who only want copies of any letters sent between parties and dont even return my phone calls what sort of customer relation is this?
I have today written to ceo of fiat uk and asked for his help to resolve my issues with my vehicle and i await his response if one should arrive. :bang:

Had the same response from my dealer when i tried to reject the car. As for Fiat customer relations, well emailed them several times asking for a email or a call and never ever received a reply, so make your mind up what kind of customer relations that is. Have a new fault with the car now, squeeling brakes, im so excited!!! :bang:

So can I just get clear on something?
You would lke to reject your G. Punto because of water getting trapped in the boot lid......are there other faults with it as well?
thanks!

Were going off topic again........until results come through from various sources i'm closing this thread.

If anyone would like to discuss this PM me or another moderator.

Water Leakage(Boot Lid)

Well from my name you can probably tell i am a little bit annoyed by the whole Punto Gp which i only bought 2 months ago and has been back to the dealership on 5 different occasions with the same fault!!

I have water pouring in through the boot lid from where the rear window is "sealed" in have many other people had this problem because my dealership quite clearly cannot fix this minor problem and does anyone know where to go from here about getting it fixed?:bang: :bang: :bang:

other faults include
Squealing brakes
Broken dashboard trim
Squeaking Cluth Pedal
A Fuse Cover that Wont Shut
The Glove box has dropped(i have heard of few problems with this)

ANY help would be appreciated! more than what the dealer is giving:D :D

Re: Water Leakage(Boot Lid)

Welcome to the forum mate.. though it'll be nice if the first post was a bit more positive :D

Almost all (if not all) the things you listed have been mentioned by others already - have a browse around the GP section - plenty of resources there.

Re: Water Leakage(Boot Lid)

Cheers to that luvduvs i was wanting to know if there are any people out there with the bootlid problem really and if they can help me?:slayer:

Re: Water Leakage(Boot Lid)

I don´t know if I have the bootlid problem. I have noticed after washing my GP, when i press the bottom of the window on the bootlid. Watter is pouring out from behind the window.. Not much but some. It happens when I try to clean/dry it with a cloth..
Is that the bootlid water problem?

Re: Water Leakage(Boot Lid)

Hell no that just water sitting between the lip and the car.

Water problem is when you open the boot lid, water sloshes around and pours out of the two rubber bungs in the corners.

Re: Water Leakage(Boot Lid)

Please read on water in bootlid was a fault on my grande sport and despite letter from dealer and fiat saying this was normal bootlid was changed a manufacturing defect on seal from window to metal skin and no seam sealant used when built the other issues mentioned are all warranty items and you will need many more visits to dealer i speak from experience on 37 days todate in dealership 17visits.
