Hi,

Does anybody here have a GP (preferably a Sporting) that has side rubbing strips. My dealer phoned me today and told me that they have put them on mine by mistake. He quickly said that i wont be charged for them (good job) but im not really sure i want them. I really dont no what to do.

Thanks

Rich

I do have them on my GP. Since my GP is Crossover Black, the black side strips are almost invisible. I think you should keep them. Will look nice on your Exotica Red as well. ;) Don't panic.

Thanks GXbox, that is what i was hoping to hear. As i expected though it seems split down the middle already as to whether i should or not. Im assuming they are not easily removed and thats why im thinking i should keep them seeing as i have waited long enough already. I cant track down a pic with them on anywhere.

Even if after delivery, you decide you don't like em, they can easily be removed by your dealer.

Best to leave them on i think... you never know when some idiot might open their door onto your GP and the strip will be their as protection.

Oh right thats handy to know that they can be removed if i dont like them. I think you are right though, especially about the dinks, thats the last thing i want.

I was in exactly the same situation as you.....I am VERY picky and after alot of thought I decided that I would leave them on, 'cause I didn't trust the dealer to remove them WITHOUT f*****g up the bodywork in some way, and that I'd probably end up removing them myself.......but do you know what they really look fine in most ways and they are 'protective' to some degree.
They're still 'on' and it's not really an issue now.....I'm gonna leave them.

My Exotica Red one, like the other guys have said, protection in Tesco's car park from idiots with trolleys and out-of-control doors ! Love 'em or hate m tho'.I think it makes the car look a bit lower Picture 143.jpg

Definately, definately keep them on mate you could live to regret it if you remove them. They look fine anyway. I had the same dillema. Mine came with them on and wandered if I should remove them. ANy doubts I had about removing them were well and truly gone when I left my car in for some work recently (1.4 Dynamic New Orleans blue) and got a demo of an active sport, same colour but without side strips. This made me again wonder whether to remove mine or not but upon collecting my own car at the end of that day, some girl in a Corolla crashed into my driver's door while trying to make a sharp left turn as I was staionary waiting to get onto the main road. I decided not to get too angry when I seen the L plates on the car! Unbelievably there was no damage at all as the side strips done a brilliant job! I went over to the lady driver (who was incredibly upset, flooding with tears) and ried to comfort her by saying 'Look, I know you're only a learner so....' the next thing the guy in the passenger seat leans over and says, 'This is her test acutally'!

Needless to say, my mind was made up after that!

any ideas on how much the side rubbing strips cost as a set and are they just self adhesive?

My copy of the "BRIO!" catalogue lists them as £43.77 (3 door) or £45.18 (5 door). I had them fitted as part of the original specification for my Dynamic. However whilst they give some protection, they seem to be too far down below the widest part of the vehicle to give meaningful protection if someone in an adjacent parking bay carelessly opens their door.

Thanks a lot to everyone who replied, especially Old-Boy racer as a pic of a red sporting with them on was exactly what i needed to convince myself :worship:. Im definately leaving them on now. If nothing else its one step closer to making it my own as there don't seem to be many with them on (sportings that is), and as a bonus it sounds like it will actually do what they are meant to do, unlike some.

Hopefully gonna see it tomorrow when i complete everything before the big day on friday. I cant remember being this excited about anything, seems quite sad really but never mind. :D

Thanks Again

No, the 'Brio' ones are different again....they are colour coded.
You buy them and then have to have them painted in the same colour as your car.
Haven't seen any.....would like to......would think they are the best looking.

Kip 02 / Old Boy Racer

could you pease measure the height between bottom of the door edge to the bottom of the Strip at the front end of the door and back end of the door. I can see them been a bit of a tw@t to line up the back 1/4 section between the back arch and the door pillar..

thanks

be carefull if you order the mouldings, out of the brio mag (n)
they are thin flat mldgs that dont look good on the car.
if you want the proper mldgs ask for the factory fit ones,of eper disc .they are more money but look a hell of a lot better £75-£80
seen a GP with brio mldgs on looked:yuck: :yuck: :yuck:
