had my knee plate done yesterday @ hylton in worcester. so should be soon

Does that mean there are two recalls:

1. The knee plate (which I had done last week)
2. Steering rack.

Any idea if the recall will be for the UK only, or internationally?

First of all ,....an official recall for the Steering rack has never been issued....

Also,..the Knee plate is only for your right hand driven cars......i.e the smallest minority around the world......

Finally,.....recalls come from even the most expensive cars ....so a recall does not prove anything.....

and when somebody buys a Fiat because offers too much for the money paid,....(much less than rivals) then should not be let down if some more problems come up,.....it's normal ......after all ,.....all cars have problems,....I know people with Mercedes,...BMWs,....even Audi's and have serious problems......so just relax and enjoy your cars...

Sorry to barge in but I do not agree with this statement. If you think about it for a bit you will realise that many countries around the world drive on the left. A big part of Asia (including Japan), Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and many more :D

I agree to this point - have heard of some fairly bad stories about relatively-expensive cars..

Just to let you no i had not had a recall but my Fiat dealer has now replaced the rack and the plate but i still got the breaks that squeak lol. Part from that i love the car.

"First of all ,....an official recall for the Steering rack has never been issued...."

so why have i got a letter along the lines of....

Urgent Attention
Fiat Auto UK Constantly minitor their products and as a result we have being asked to replace the lower steering column on your Fiat punto.

This work is required o avoid any future problem with the unit and can be carried out free of charge by any Fiat dealer

to arange a booking blah blah blah,

This is for the steering column....not the rack......and is isuued by Fiat Auto UK...as you correctly say... not Fiat Italy......

In most Asia's countries the system is left hand side wheel,...except few (Malaysia/Spore)...but in these countries Fiat either don't export the car or sale an extremely small number of cars.....same for S.Africa. Major sales for Fiat on right hand system is in UK and N.Zealand/Australia....

but anyway this is not our issue here.....

chears all its just the way the letter was written why cant they use idiots English and explain the need for the work or are they **** scared of explaining the problem to customers..

the " replace lower steering column" had me thinking that they where talking about the connecting shaft if they had said Replace lower steering column shroud it'd have made more sence especially as the person on the other end of the phone when i booked it in didn't know what exactly was going on

They replaced my compleate Rack and realined the wheels. They also replaced the saftey plate where your knees are to make it the 5 star its advertised at.

I just took me car to the midlands and back from devon and its a great ride just hit 3000 miles and car is getting better all the time. just gota get my breaks fixed lol that noise is bad!!!.
