Re: First to second gear

But I've being booked in for the coming Monday anyway - its better than just sitting here and wait, right? :(

Here's the list of problems summarised that I'll be handing to the dealer today (for those who are interested):

**************************************************
Dear Fiat service team,

Please see below the list of current outstanding issues with xxxxxx.

Juddering Dualogic
There is a violent juddering/jerk when pulling away from first to second gear in either auto or manual mode. This happens when the car has been left cold (i.e. undriven) for about two days and goes away after about 20 to 30 minutes of driving. So please do not start work on the car until Thursday (22nd) at the earliest.

Your team has already looked at this issue at the end of December 06 and the gearbox has been recalibrated – which did not help. Previously it took a week before the problem occurs, but now it only takes about two days so I’m assuming the problem is getting worse. The symptoms it displays suggests that something is not warmed up (e.g. clutch plates, transmission oil etc) because the problem disappears after the car has been warmed up after 20 to 30 minutes of driving.

Reverse gear clank/grind
Also not sure if this is related to the above, but occasionally when the reverse gear is selected it makes an extremely loud grinding noise. Not sure if you can replicate the problem as it occurs quite randomly, but it would be greatly appreciated if you could look into this when dealing with the above issue.

Dash vent demister
The dash vent demister (driver’s side) has popped up and now no longer sits properly in place. This was already replaced once at the end of December 06, but a few weeks ago it had popped out of place by itself for no apparent reason.

Steering wheel clicking
Steering wheel makes clicking noises and thuds when turned either to the left or right. Again your team looked this at the end of December 06, in which I was advised it was due to a loose knuckle, which had since been tightened – again this has not resolved the problem.

Dent on hatch lid
There is a small dent of the hatch lid (right hand side towards the middle). Although shallow it is definitely noticeable. Do you provide paintless dent removal services or would you be able to refer me to someone that does?

Dualogic manual
I was not given a copy of this at the time I purchased the car and I’ve been trying to get my hands on a copy for months now. Fiat Australia has provided me with a parts number 60346822 - would you be able to provide me with a copy of this please?

Should you need clarification on any of the above issues please feel free to contact me on xxxx xxx xxx.

Thank you and Best Regards,
Kevin

I agree to a certain extent that Fiat dealers suck, but remember its Fiat themselves that designed and built the cars. If they can't figure out what's wrong, then neither will the local dealers and their mechanics. That's why I've been quite patient with them because I know deep down its not really their fault (and plus I don't want to ruin relationships with them as there aren't very many of them here).

Incidentally when I asked the service guy that served me if any other customers have reported this juddering problem, and his reply was 'No, because its only a new car in the last couple of months so I haven't heard of it' - doesn't instill much confidence does it?

And about the NoLogic handbook, the salesman didn't give any excuses - he just ignored all my emails and calls (n) Don't worry I'll get my hands on one from this Service Manager - I will :slayer::slayer::slayer::slayer::slayer:

The symptoms it displays suggests that something is not warmed up (e.g. clutch plates, transmission oil etc) because the problem disappears after the car has been warmed up after 20 to 30 minutes of driving.

"Left vehicle 2-3 days for complete dead cold test. Started vehicle and faulted vehicle juddering and jerking from 1st to 2nd gear in auto or manual mode within 1st 20-30 minutes of driving, connected examiner, no upgrades available, system is up to date. Carried out clutch calibration and adjusted brake switch, rechecked extensively, gearbox now operating correctly" - no juddering on the way home, but will need to monitor this for at least a week or two to see if problem will resurface.

"After carrying out clutch calibration reverse gear no longer grinds on selection" - no grinding/clanking so far.

Dash vent demister
The dash vent demister (driver’s side) has popped up and now no longer sits properly in place. This was already replaced once at the end of December 06, but a few weeks ago it had popped out of place by itself for no apparent reason.

"Resecured vent top, found clip had come away" - no replacement required.

Steering wheel clicking
Steering wheel makes clicking noises and thuds when turned either to the left or right. Again your team looked this at the end of December 06, in which I was advised it was due to a loose knuckle, which had since been tightened – again this has not resolved the problem.

"Checked for noise and found to be dry upper strut bushes making ticking noise, removed upper strut locating washer and apply rubber grease to stop noise, rechecked ok" - still extremely faint click, but I don't care anymore.

Dent on hatch lid
There is a small dent of the hatch lid (right hand side towards the middle). Although shallow it is definitely noticeable. Do you provide paintless dent removal services or would you be able to refer me to someone that does?

"Had dent removed from rear tailgate" - most of dent removed, but still slightly dented (almost invisible) - will email dealer later to see if they can get the rest out.

Dualogic manual
I was not given a copy of this at the time I purchased the car and I’ve been trying to get my hands on a copy for months now. Fiat Australia has provided me with a parts number 60346822 - would you be able to provide me with a copy of this please?

"Refer to Sales to provide Dualogic book" - :bang:

Should you need clarification on any of the above issues please feel free to contact me on xxxx xxx xxx.

Thank you and Best Regards,
Kevin

Here's the latest update in blue above (quotations are from the service report).

Thoughts anyone?

Re: First to second gear

sounds to me like simple little things that needed sorting but due to their lack of enthusiasm and knowledge it all built up into a big problem.
Nice to hear that something has finally been acted upon.

Fingers crossed for you buddy! (y)

I think so too - lack of experience definitely played a big part. Will keep monitoring juddering but I wouldn't be surprised if the problem returns

Fingers crossed for you buddy! (y)

Thank you :)

Re: First to second gear

Been driving a dual logic last few days, personally dont like the 'lurching' when changing gear but never been big fan of automatics in the first place, anyway carried out a software update on the gearbox (with new brake switch)....customer also complained of no litreature on the dual logic box in the manual aswell.

Re: First to second gear

I admire your persistence Kev, that's the only way to get things done sometimes. Let us know how it goes (y)

Thanks.. crunch time would be Saturday when its been left cold for two days. Not much expectations tbh :shakehead

Re: First to second gear

Ok, car's been left cold for two days, gave it a chance to stretch its legs, and no juddering!!

Will monitor it for a few more weeks and see if its really fixed..

Re: First to second gear

YIPPEE!!!!
:worship: :woot: :woot:
have Faith in your FIAT:nerner: (if not your dealer! haha)

Wouldn't it be funny if I come back later and say the problem is back again? But nonetheless it does look promising so far. Thanks guys for staying in touch with this one :)

Re: First to second gear

Well it's about bloody time, congratulations Kev!!! (y) :slayer:

I'd give it a few weeks as well, just to be sure but that's great news. I can just imagine you cringing when you tested it and the sigh of relief afterwards, I bet that felt good.

So was it your original dealer that finally got it sorted?

My heart was pumping really fast as I drove it out of the driveway :D

Yep it was the original dealer, but yes let's give it some more time. Hopefully this will close the case and be helpful for others with the same problem :)

Re: First to second gear

tell you something, it's nice to hear someone who has persisted with a fault and not got all high and mighty with it and started shouting of about it, and also got a good result!
Are you happy with it now?
I know you've only just been out for your first drive but does it feel as you expected it to initially?

Hopefully this restores a bit of Faith in you for the dealership and the brand!
cant be far off it's 6 month check up now anyway is it?

Well I'm cautiously happy now and yes it does feel like how it should be. Hate to have to come back and post something like "Its back again :bang: " that's why I'm not opening the champagne yet

Yep it'll be 6 months at the end of this month. Have to go back to the manual and familiarise myself with the service schedule now (I've seen a few posts on this but I can't remember what had been said) :)

Re: First to second gear

very simple, 6 months take it back to the dealer, they check the car over, go thru any updates (haha) that may need doing and usually drop the oil and replace the oil filter (it's a free service apart from consumables like the oil and filter)
6 months after that you have your standard annual service which is at your cost, it's then just 12 months or 30,000km whichever comes first.

Re: First to second gear

:yeahthat:

Thanks mate, that means yet another visit in a few weeks time. They should mark a special parking space just for me given that I'm such a regular visitor now
