Styling Couple of neons behind my grill

I got pulled about 3 days after I passed my test with the fogs on (i didnt know I had them on) Fined £30 on the spot apparently that is the miminum fine. They said my attitude was A+, Thats why they reduced it!

Does the GP turn the fog lights off when you stop and remove the key? My Mk2 did (well the rear - never had a car with fronts), due to the soft buttons which also meant the rear demister didn't stay on forever.

ok i've found out what can happen if i get caught, my girlfriends sister and partner r both police officers and they said...

you are allowed any colour on the front as long as its white, and any colour on the back as long as its red, but there should be NO other colour on the outside of the car whatsoever! if they catch you you will have 14 days to take them off and then get an m.o.t certificate saying so.

You can have any colour you want inside the car tho.

what a complete waste of time that was! lol

yeah i was wondering about the inside of the car, cause ive got blue footwell neons. and can be quite bright at night which might cause the same problem? but if thats the case then i spose it's a'ok.

shame about having to remove them, maybe you could just leave them in there and only put them on at meet's so show off :slayer:

yea i could just leave them on and show off when i roll up to to a mc donalds car park lol i think it wud look pretty good inside the car as well, i dunno where i cud put them tho coz they r realllyyy bright. I saw someone with 2 1meter long neon tubes inside his car along the ceiling lol now that was bright!

u can run them off the battery or on the cigerette lighter,

and ones underneath the glove box, and under the steering wheel.

hmmmm good point.

but i suppose cause its not always bright and sunny, tried driving with sunglasses on at night? ;p

And talking of laws that dont make total sense.....

Why is illegal to have tints in the front but NOT illegal to wear sunglasses? :D

When a driver wears sunglasses you can still see him/her and through the car for other traffic. WIth dark tints you can't and therefore may not see another car approaching. It's for safety reasons.

if thats the case, then wouldtn it be illegal to tint the rear window?

if tintings not illegal, then surely some of the gigantic decals ive seen on rear windows should be o_O

lmao, no. lil neon's that light up the footwell's, 3 cigerette lighters? christ i've been called a chain smoker in the past but thats a bit intense ;)

As long as you dont have the neons on when on a public road there okay. at least you have had the sense to put them on a switch.

if you wear sunglasses at night you can if caught be done for the same as having tints. also if you have got tinted front windscreens which are only alowed under a specified amount then some sunglasses can cause a near complete blackout.

My old Vauxhall Had Green front side windows and brown rear glass. the front screen was the origional brown color. when someone smashed a hole in the front with an air rifle it was replced with a green tint. made life much easier as you could see the color difference really badly in the evenings and it gave your eyes a bit of strain trying to ajust from green light to brown all the time.

how do you fit the neon to the battery can i have a detailed explaination as i think it looks really cool and i might do the same. please help me out. and also with any other mods you have as im stuck about what to do?

legaly speaking you can only use cirtain "classes" of sunglasses under newish EC grading they class them in four groups whilst driving but i doubt most coppers would even know what to look for...

Carogory 0: Comfort, design.

Catogory 1:Weak sunlight.

Catogory 2: Average sunlight.

Catogory 3: Strong sunlight.

Catogory 4: Exceptionally strong sunlight. Not suitable for drivers and road users

To fit to it a neon to the car battery first you need to strip the control box down bypass any on off switch on the controller (you will need a soldering iron) if you plan to mount the box in the engine compartment you need a waterproof plastic box to protect the PCB from salt and gland all the cables) You then need to remove the power supply cables from the controller and solder a fuse in the +ative rail of the pcb and solder a fly lead and connect to the battery,

under your dash find an earth and link this through a switch and solder this to the -ative rail on the PCB

WARNING Neons use a VERY HIGH voltage output on the Supply side of the PCB :dead:

I fitted a blue neon to a tipo 10 years ago!!!

Hid the thing behind the front bumper so the whole of the front had a nice blue glow in the dark.

Never had any trouble with police in london or brighton, but in exeter I got stopped by an over keen young bobbie in a panda.

He proceeded to tell me that only emergency vehicles like ambulances could have blue lights. I told him I was a nurse and pointed at my car park pass for the hospital. He didn't know what to do at that point, I was just being cheeky but it worked and he let me go!

hey, sorry i dont really know how it was all done because my friend did it (and i don't know anythin about electronics) he said he'd send me a little diagram of how he did it so maybe i can stick that up here soon. All i know is that we had a red power cable on the positive of the battery, the same power cable you get with an amplifier wiring kit n all that. sorry i can't b anymore helpful!
