Well, Fiat of Worcester ordered me a new steering rack back in July, and its finally due for delivery tomorrow :) After all this time i am finally, hopefully, going to be able to enjoy my car. Have been zapping arround in a fiesta hire car they gave me for the last 5 weeks whilst they waited for the part.

Just on a side note, BMC have released a replacement filter for the 1.9 sporting - have got one on order from Edworthys Online, but there seems to be a small delay in getting them from Italy.

So, when i get my car back, i will fit a better air filter - should give some improvement hopefully.

Ok...new rack is fitted, but they can not calibrate it!! There are a bunch of errors on the dash etc. Aparently the diagnostics say the rack is 715 degrees out from centre. Although the rack is fitted correctly, the steering is aligned and the tracking has been done, the electronics seem to be a bit messed up. The dealer does not know how to fix it and are requiring Fiats assistance.

Hopefully they will be able to fix it as i am getting fed up with the little fiesta - and paying for a car that i can not use is heart breaking. Not sure there is much i can do really, but wait.

My car was due to go to the dealer this week, but they have had to send the steering racks back to Fiat and are awaiting a new batch. they didn't say what was wrong with them.

Will just have to wait a bit longer............

They are at least fixing the gearbox on my car now before i completely strip the 3rd gear cog of all its teeth as they don't know how long it will be before the new racks get delivered. (n)

Why did they give you a hire car? Did they think your GP was unsafe to drive without the new rack?

Have been pottering about in my GP as was told by the dealer there was no problem with driving it whilst they waited for the parts :confused:

They said that although it was safe to drive, they wanted to minimise the risk of undue wear on any other components. They had also recieved an email from FIAT instructing them to offer me a car. Guess its upto the dealer to take the financial hit.

Good news though, got a call today to tell me they have fixed the electronics issue with the steering rack, and my car is ready to collect :)
