No, no, no.......The misinformation that goes flying around this forum sometimes! lol

If you factory order the car with a locking petrol cap it costs £20 AND the ignition key also unlocks and locks the petrol cap - if you order the locking petrol cap from the dealer AFTER you have taken delivery of the car the price is still £20 BUT you get another specific key just to unlock and lock the petrol cap.
.....This I know as my blue 1.4 Sporting is sailing it's way towards Portebury at the moment with a factory ordered locking cap...So only one key for me :)
Feel quite pleased, got the whole lot for £9350 - should be nice - hope they've ironed out the 'glitches'.

It's called cost cutting, trying to extract the maximum amount of profit per unit.
I think on this particular item it is "Extreme" and annoying.....

The electric windows dont have anti-squeeze mechanism, or if they do, mine dont work. Ask the poor coke bottle that was Mrs R's guinea pig....... Not too bad for me as I don't have kids, but if I did I think its a relatively important safety feature.

Also found that the lock and unlock buttons are the wrong way round on the key fob. By this I mean the unlock sticks out a bit further than the lock button, and hence is quite easy to inadvertantly press as you are stuffing said key into your pocket and walking away from the car. Luckily I heard it unlock the other day when it happened, but I have returned to an unlocked car and was sure I had locked it previously! (n) If the buttons were the other way round or just all flush it would better!

I have 5 door GP with electric controlled back door windows. 4 windows have anti-squeeze mechanizm. might be because of the equipment level.

Group buy a locking one, am in! :D

Why's the security etching on the passanger side, not the drivers?

I factory ordered my Dynamic with a factory fitted petrol cap - and it arrived with a separate key.

Thank you for the reply......boy that's got me worried.
Obviously the dealer has given me some duff information....suppose I'll find out in a few weeks when I pick it up.

It could be that my dealer fitted the cap themselves - rather than including it as part of the factory order as requested.

The flap that covers the filler cap will be locked by the central locking system as it does on almost every other car on the market with central locking.

Had alook at my GP the other day, there is a latch inside the outer flap, and a bolt next to the actual filler cap. The look like it should lock when you activate the central locking bit it doesn't. There clearly is a mechanism there to lock the outer flap. May ask the dealer next time i go in why it isnt wired up as that seems to be the only reason why it doesn't work.

Will try and get a pic to show what i mean.

I suggest it is another example of Fiat building it down to a price. I don't know if its just me but i would rather have paid a few hundred quid more for the car and not had these gripes.

Its dissapointing as your first impressions of the car is of the quality and equipment its only after you live with it for a while that these things start to bug you

Yeah, I couldn't agree with you more......unfortunately I think it's got alot to do with Fiat's 'market placement', kind of middle/lower - huge discounting and recent financial concerns.....all these kinds of things heavily dictate whether these important small things will actually effect an actual sale of a unit.
Shame though.....

I've noticed in this thread that lots of people don't read the manual! This may be because:
- It's written by a Japanese person using an Italian to Portuguese dictionary, then a Portuguese to English dictionary, or:
- They can't be ar*ed.

I read it - but certainly didn't commit it word for word to memory :)

I discovered the other day that my car has deadlocks... even though the supplying dealer, my local dealer and even What Car? say it doesn't. Could be part of my alarm system (genuine Fiat accessory). I agree with comments re. fuel cap. I have a separate key for mine, which I leave in the car... well left in the car until it went in for some warranty work and the dealership lost it! Now they're buying me a new one... hopefully before I run out of diesel! Only kidding, I'm using the spare key!

I know the car is considerably cheaper than its main rivals (Corsa, 207, Clio) but there are some corners you just can't cut.

Deadlocks are mentioned in the manual, without the 'some versions' proviso. You click twice to activate.

So are you saying that you have a Punto Sporting without the Fiat alarm system fitted and it still has deadlocks?

I have a 1.4 active sport and if I press the lock button the remote twice it activates the deadlocks as per instructions in the manual with the indicators flashing 3 times....as far as I know it doesnt have an alarm :)

I have the active sport aswell. If i click my 'lock' button it flashes and then click it quickly again and it flashes twice more and i hear a loud 'clunk' as the deadbolts engage! :)

Good 'ole FIAT!

My wife has the remote key I have to make do with the stick it in the hole and turn it key

Oh yes
11. cr*p range of the remote key

Hold the key to the side of your head as you do with your fingers when feigning suicide and click. The range will increase by upto half. It's something to do with the cranium focusing the waves and sending them out stronger. Trust me it works, best to pretend you are just scratching your head with your key though or people look at you funny!

P.S. The fact that the front of your skull is less dense than the back of your skull allows the waves to focus forward, similar to a sat dish or a spoon ( <-- that shape!
