Re: Help! My car is leaking!

Just a quick question to the other swimming pool drivers on this thread if I may... have you noticed water dripping from under the car in this location?

And one showing the view from the inside:

I have a very steep drive and the car is parked facing upwards, the car hasn't been driven in the rain for the past week but it has been parked in it, this is the view today, it seems to be draining out from somewhere under the car but I can't see where, judging by the speed of the drips it must be a tiny hole leading from the rear footwell. As ever it's only this location that's wet but I've noticed quite a bit of water draining from the doors when they are opened, I also spotted a bit of water on the inside of the door rubbers today:

Apologies for poor quality pics, my camera battery is flat so I had to use my phone.

Are any of the others seeing anything similar or are my findings skewed by my driveway angle?

On the fuel economy thing they apparently found nothing when it was plugged in at the dealership but it's suddenly doing 43mpg on the combined cycle over the same routes / conditions as previously.

No, it doesn't even feel slightly damp so it's not as if the water has come in there and then soaked backwards due to the angle of the driveway.

The first time this happened the car was parked on level ground too, again it was just the area behind the drivers seat that was wet.

Oddness.

Is there water under the rear seats?

Also have you had a drivers door lock done?

No sign of any damp under rear seats or in boot, it seems completely isolated to that area, which is obviously slightly odd

No lock changes that I'm aware of, car was brand new when we got it.

There is a 'membrane' behind the panel to prevent water leaking it,this has to be partly removed to renew lock.

Re: Help! My car is leaking!

We got the car back yesterday - the diagnosis was "missing sealant on the bulkhead", I couldn't chat to the people who did the work to get specifics but I'll have a poke around on the car over the weekend.

Obviously the water was getting in there, pooling up somewhere and then moving to the rear of the car when parked on the driveway at a steep angle, odd how it was only in the rear when we first noticed it on the flat though.

Anyway they reckon it's sorted - carpets removed and dried out, all the foam underneath replaced and the car valeted, I can't fault the work so far if it does prove to fix the issue

Sadly they let themselves down with the courtesy cars.

On arrival on Monday morning, almost a month after booking the car in, my partner was told that someone else had been given the car reserved for her. They opted to get another car from their other dealership which meant my partner was almost late for work. The car was a previous shape Punto, filthy windscreen, vapours in the tank and, as we realised that night, without a valid tax disk! Nice to drive though, I preferred the newer black interior to the grey one in our old ELX 16v.

So the car went back and was swapped for a Grande 1.2 Dynamic in silver, lovely colour, contrasting light blue seats and dash trim (potential for dirt though) and felt about the same to drive as our 1.4, for the savings available on this engine it's definitely worth considering over the 1.4 8v. Sadly the car, despite being new, wasn't without a fault, apart from the usual lack of petrol (needle didn't even move when we started it up) the heater fans only worked on number 4, the other settings resulted in nothing.

All in all a decent enough experience for a Fiat warranty repair but it's clear they still have a fair way to go on the service side of things unfortuntely. We asked about swapping the car for something similar in 16v and despite the dealer principle saying he'd help out to compensate for our woes the offer made was offensive.

So we'll either hang on to it for a while or try our luck elsewhere.

Re: Help! My car is leaking!

So it's fixed?

Been few mentions of courtesy cars recently, its not on to let a car go out without tax however its not like a hire car & theres not time to check/clean cars before its loaned out again (better than nothing?) and it depends who had the car last...no fuel, dirty nappies under seats, seatbelts chewed through by a dog...sadly some folk have little respect for other peoples property.

Keep us up to date if all is ok (i'll log this fix if it works) after the next downpour

Re: Help! My car is leaking!

Hopefully it's fixed, fairly typical that summer has now arrived but I'm sure it will be short-lived so plenty of water testing to come

Like you say the courtesy cars are generally only as good as the last person to have them, sadly all drivers aren't car enthusiasts, the tax thing could have been avoided though, not something I generally check despite it being something the driver of the car is responsible for.

Will keep you posted once the downpours arrive

Cheers

Trying to make up a post with potential water leak areas but very few seem to get 100% sorted

Re: Help! My car is leaking!

Well mines fixed at last

Fiat tech finally came to sort it for me as the monkeys at the garage had no idea.

I was informed that the boot was letting in water from three seperate areas.

1. Rear screen motor

2. Badge somewhere lol

3. Door Seam

Dont ask be about the badge as im clueless how the hell that could let water in but thats what I was told. I have jet washed the car and no leaks so looks like the water saga is over. At least I hope so anyways!

Thats not really fair mate as fiat technical tend to keep things 'under their hat' much to the annoyance of fiat techs, hopefully after many meetings this will change!
