Hello Peeps,

Right so far we have has 2 Grande Puntos(there is a story to it!!), the first(1.3MTJD Dynamic) we didn't have any problems with but the 1.9MJTD Sporting we have had the following:

1. Been back in for poor build quality as alot of interior panels were not seated properly or had stuff stuck behind them.

2. Drivers door stopped working from inside. The door could only be opened from the outside, but then you had to pull the inner door handle to get it to shut. Door lock was replaced by dealer about a month ago (This is a known defect, confirmed by the technician sat in my car last night!! He said "We've changed about 50 door locks, Fiat have changed the design now")

3. Drivers window well... basically does what it wants!!! It goes up ok but when you try and get it to go down it kinda does a fancy jig:bang: Then when it finally decides that it will go down you stop it half way and then decide you want to open it all the way, you press down again and the window goes up!!! (From the reaction of the Technician I had in my car last night this is also a known defect) So hopefully it will be fixed when I go to collect it tonight!!

I have a GP Sporting 1.4 which I collect on 12 july and so far (after 6000km) only abnormal items are:

1. one small clip on left back wheel arch not fitted properly resulting a knock on bad road - fixed by fiat service in 15 minutes.

2. the common known problem of the misalignment of the glove box - did some work on the fiat service and sort of fixed it, the same day I went for the above.

3. small crackle from the plastic of the dash on the small windows areas but only during very hot summer time - now that weather is normal,...sound is gone.

As you understand the above are minors and already solved with no cost....general impression is very good (y) ,....enjoying the car..:slayer:

Picked my 1.9 Sporting up on Friday 1st.
One clip holding sill moulding on passenger side not pushed in quite home and tiniest piece of "grit" in paint way down low on n/s again behind door, so small you can barely see it and have to feel it, and drivers door speaker not working.
Rang Dealer - Bostons of Milford - took it back first thing Saturday, Mark Bodyshop Manager got straight onto it and sorted trim clip and we discussed paint defect, I think I may well leave well alone as its so small, and Pete Service Manager and his guys had a quick look at the speaker but agreed it needed more investigation.
Salesman, Sean Palmer, picked up spare key from my home on Wednesday on his way home, then he and a.n .:slayer: other picked up the car mid morning Thursday, returned at 5:30 by Sean and Pete with speaker now working ok after checking connections etc, " if any more trouble let us know and we'll order a new loom for the door".
All in all very minor probs and what about the response, pretty quick and efficient I say!, as good as you could hope for I feel.
Thanks to all at Bostons.
PS the car is fekkin smashing I'm pleased to say!

1.9 Sporting, dispalay faut on climate control that only needed conecting to computer to reset and nearside door ever so slightly out of alignment. Other than that the car has been amazing.

Only one defect so far, but a pretty major one.... mine's on a boat coming from Italy and not on my driveway! Bet they can't fix that one :)

Adametz G, check here I had/have it too but since I keep it dry it still work (knocks on wood). I went to the dealer for some other stuff and the greased the windowrubbers just in case that was the problem.

Got car Friday 1st, 1.9 sporting.

Squeeling brakes at very slow speeds.
Also, car seems to wander a touch on the motorway. My shogun
is better in this respect. I'm hoping it's just down to the tyres
scrubbing in, and will sort itself out.
Steering wheel not quite straight. About 3 degrees of axis.

Mine wandered to in the beginning but doesn't do it anymore. Can that really be a scrubbing in thing of the tyres?

BTW 3 degrees is really a little. ;)

You're right, 3 degrees is nothing, i'm just very fussy:D

With regards to the tyres. What i meant was the tyres flattening to the road as they may be riding on they're edges to a very minor degree if the wheels are set with camber.
I had a clio dynamique before, and if i changed the tyres from front to back, to equalise the wear, the car would be all over the road until a few thousand miles later, when the tyres had worn the tread parrallel to the floor.
I didn't do that again:eek:

Well than you're probably right because mine is not wandering anymore and I have 3000Km on the clock.

Had my 1.4 16v sporting since June (Chemical Grey). Great Car! Yesterday i pulled on my glove box handle (to open it obviously) and the whole handle snapped off in my hand. A spring went flying and a small piece of plastic seems to have broken. Really annoying!:bang:

Squeeling brakes could be either the glaze on the pads burning off or the pads need greasing. That or whoever fitted the pads forgot to put the anti-vibration washers behind them....

1. Onboard Computer f**ked up and my Speedo Rev Counter and all gauges and equipment stopped working even the Stereo!.

Fixed within an hour at the dealer.

2. Glove Box doesn't line up and looks baaad... How I didn't notice when I picked it up I don't know could be the excitement due to waiting 2months+!.

Still not fixed :(. On the list for next week

3. Creaking noise when reversing or going foward over a mound or uneven road. Quite concerning to say the least.

Still not fixed :(. On the list for next week

4. Knocking Thud noise when doing a full power start from first into second almost as if the sheer torque is trying to rip the gear box from its mountings....

Still not fixed :(. On the list for next week

5. Drivers side foot well plastic panel does not line up anymore :(. Just need to be pulled of and reset probably but i'll be god damned if im doing it!.

Still not fixed :(. On the list for next week

6. Some how while pluging in my USB extender cable that came with the car without excess pressure!. The USB Port came off completly! which had rendered my B&M Media Player useless!.

Im ringing my dealer first thing tomorrow to book it into the workshop and im going to take out the mechnic for a drive to he can hear all the noises. Im just crapping myself incase I have the dreaded steering rack problem :(.

Right picked up my new 56 reg grande on thursday 7th sept.
Havent got any dodgy noises like my other one thank god, BUT i have sqealing brakes and one of the blower things in the middle console has fallen apart...mmm.
Back to the dealer 2moro before i go on holiday to get them to sort it before i leave.

Another moan thread lol. :)

To put a brighter point on this thread, has anyone actually had their GP break down? Whilst all the points mentioned are of annoyance they are hardly serious and most have been mentioned in previous threads so this is really just going over old ground.

All the probs seem to be due to lazy Italians not putting the cars together right, then leaving it to our british boys to sort out the problems!

Solution - Build a Fiat factory in the UK!! :D
