Hello Peeps,

Right so far we have has 2 Grande Puntos(there is a story to it!!), the first(1.3MTJD Dynamic) we didn't have any problems with but the 1.9MJTD Sporting we have had the following:

1. Been back in for poor build quality as alot of interior panels were not seated properly or had stuff stuck behind them.

2. Drivers door stopped working from inside. The door could only be opened from the outside, but then you had to pull the inner door handle to get it to shut. Door lock was replaced by dealer about a month ago (This is a known defect, confirmed by the technician sat in my car last night!! He said "We've changed about 50 door locks, Fiat have changed the design now")

3. Drivers window well... basically does what it wants!!! It goes up ok but when you try and get it to go down it kinda does a fancy jig:bang: Then when it finally decides that it will go down you stop it half way and then decide you want to open it all the way, you press down again and the window goes up!!! (From the reaction of the Technician I had in my car last night this is also a known defect) So hopefully it will be fixed when I go to collect it tonight!!

God Damn its happened again!!!!

As my friendly little technician told me when we went out for a ride, Fiat have changed the design of the lock mechanism. But it hasn't stopped it from happening again to me

So we are back to opening the door from the outside and resetting it on the inside!!!

Plus when starting up our friendly computer says "Check glow plugs" as well as the glow plug light flashing :bang:

Oh and its had the recall for the dash plate!!

So hopefully when we drop it off tonight they can get it all sorted for when we pick it up tomorrow

Had the same problem with my 'Drivers side' electric window......it's to do with the Express down/up control box.
It's a known problem and Fiat have modified the control box and given it a new part number. Takes 5 minutes to replace.
They've improved it too....Works better and smoother than the original one.

my brakes Squeel but only seem to do it in reverse which is strange also had software problem with the hill hold assist dealer fixed no problems since 1.4 sporting

Picked up mine on 1st Oct and had very heavy rain yesterday and the skydome leaks  Dealer here I come! Everything else is fine.

Leaking Skydome,....????Wow....this is strange,......

From which part did you have the leakage,...the forward opening one or the back stable one???

I have mine about 5 months now and despite some very heavy rains,....I did not have any sign of leakage.....absolutely perfect,....

Anyway the structure of the system is such that it is much more difficult to have leakage compared to the usual sun roofs....

I have the 1.4 16v and Ive done approx 5500 miles in mine and its only had the usual faults.

Squealing brakes in reverse.

Clunk when changing fromm 1st to 2nd that feel like an engine mount is loose) Dunno if this is a fault or a characteristic as I have heard of other people on this forum complaining of this but havent heard if there has been any resoultion to it.)

Dodgey drivers window (fixed by dealer but window now doesnt auto open/shut because I couldnt be bothered taking it back)

Squeal from the heater fan

Part of centre console sticking out and catching trouser leg when using clutch.

Nothing major at all and It hasn't ruined my enjoyment of the car. I will get these bits looked at all at once when I can be bothered booking it in for the recall for the plate on the drivers side.

Crunches in reverse because I keep forgetting to wait 2 seconds.

One major fault by me! Got caught doing 115mph on the way to liverpool. The police officer was reasonable and said we will just put you were exceeding the speed limit shall we. £60 fine and 3 points. Fair enough.

You lucky c**t I know someone who got £1000 fine and a 1 yr ban for doing 120 mph!. To be fair its prolly cause you where driving a GP the guy I know was driving a BMW 7 Series which screams im a burk!.

Some more stuff gone wrong for me.

The bonnet release handle stopped working, couldn't open the bonnet.
Dealer fixed (thank god for a new fiat dealer in cardiff, No more crappy bridgend dealer visits for me!)

Today, ran out of diesel (after 380 miles!! MPG seems to be getting real bad) The car went into limp mode with check engine on display. Couldn't get any power out of it. I disconnected battery for a minute, and power was restored.

Phoned dealer about the check engine light which was still on, tols to bring car in again, don't drive very far etc. Luckily, it just turned itself off after 20 mins!!!

This car is quite sh)t really.:D
Shauncorwyn, you've been very lucky to have no probs.

What with the paltry 40mpg, and stuff going wrong all the timeI think i'll most prob get rid if it in the spring. My last fiat was like this(n)

Yeah I was lucky. I held my hands up and said its a fair cop! I was polite to him even after he insisted he could smell weed on me even though I dont smoke it and cant skin up!! I told him so and he said maybe I had been near someone who had had some. I thought dont get mad let him have his moment of patronising and took my fine and limped the rest of the way to liverpool at 70.

What police force do you have????

I know down here in Essex (or up here depending where you are) you get caught doing 100mph+ its an instant ban. I know its 3 points for anything upto 12mph over the limit then 6 points after 12mph. so 120mph or what ever it was was like 50mph over the limit that should have easily been a ban. You are one lucky ba***rd lol (y)

Had squeely brakes on mine for about a month now. Usually when slowly pulling up either fwd or reverse. Sounds like the local bus pulling up (not good). Left it with the dealer last Saturday and they said they took it out twice and heard nothing, so they cleaned the brakes up and told me to let them know if it happened again.

So I picked the car up later that day and as I left their forcourt the brakes squeeled.... bummer.

more dozy fiat twonks!!!

there is a remedy for squeely brakes, if they ask fiat uk technical dept. they would have found out.
Take it back, and tell them if they don't know how to fix them, then Fiat do.
I'm getting really fed up with totally inept main dealer numbskull fluckin idiots!!

Rant over, calm now:D

So far ( one week old punto ) the only thing that is not ok is the right front speaker rattle in high volumes and bass.
Will require a visit to the dealer..

Got my 1.9 Sporting last Thursday and overall I've been pretty pleased.

I'll grant you that some of the problems on this thread I wouldn't even notice but aside from Blue&Me not recognising my MP3 and being pretty useless for phone calls the only problem I can see is that the air con seems pretty weak. If I get in the car and there is condensation on the inside of the windscreen it takes at least 5 minutes on full whack to clear!

I don't have the air con, but i have noticed the inside of the windscreen gets very wet if the car has been parked during the day, especially at this time of year. Was never as bad in my other cars.

I can't find any leaks in the car so can't put it down to a leak causing the dampness, does anyone else just have a general problem with the build up of condensation, if so, is there a solution? And when i say condensation i mean big drops of water hanging off the inside of the screen not just a bit misted up! :D
