Looking through OXCDi3's list it seems to contain a huge number of CDL faults rendering the car almost impegnable.
Could this be part of Fiats push to make their cars more secure?
After all, who would want to nick a car and then get trapped in it?
Magic, might bring the ABI rating down even lower...

i had the exact same fault. took it to grays in warwick, they enquired with fiat 3 weeks later they replaced it! What more could you want ;) (except for it not to be faulty in the first place)

Mine was because there were gaps in the elements, that the fault of whoever manufacters the window, not really fiats fault.[/quote

Having had several windscreens replaced over my many years of car ownership, I decided to give the replacement option a miss. Glad your's has worked out okay but I did not fancy any further damage being caused to my car in the process of having the tailgate glass replaced. Don't know if you have watched bonded glass screens being removed. Suffice to say, it is not a pretty sight. Screwdrivers and similar implements tend to feature in the process. Anyway, I'll say no more as I can live with the problem and you are happy with the job.

unless I specifically ask the garage to do a check, how am I supposed to know it has been done?

you will be told, stop worrying...chances are wont apply to your car;)

I have had a brand new T-jet since october 07 and done just over 3500 miles. I will tell you now that its the best car i have ever owned. a total pleasure to drive and utterly reliable (EVERYTHING works as it should). No rattles or squeeks, nice blend of power and economy (39MPG). and i paid a silly price for it too (a smidge over £9k). Was very close to not getting another Fiat after my old punto worked flawlessly for 2 years then near enough self destructed in the space of a month! I have probably shot myself in the foot by bragging but i think it will prove to be super reliable over the next 3 years at least!

love it :worship:

problems with my GP.

hi,

I am a gp owner from singapore and being such a small country, we do not have the luxury of having different dealer to choose from. Basically, the dealer over here is c**p and i get more knowledge about the car from this forum. :slayer:

Problems i face with my gp so far which my dealer is unable to fix:

1) Misalignment of glove box
Dealer claim its a standard design to accomodate free play for ease of closing the glove box and refuse to get it changed.

2) Misalignment of window control panel
The window control panel seems from the driver side seems to be popping out.

3) sizzling sound like water evaporating off a hot surface coming form undercarriage.
I get this sound each time i parked my car. Dealer claim its normal and all the gp has this problem.

4) fogging foglights
The problem keep coming back , the dealer cannot fixed it.

5) creaking/rattling sound
Dealer unable to solved but managed to get answer from this forum. (y)

6) gear problem - only happend once so far.
when i change gear , the rev shoots up to 3500 rpm - 4000 rpm and causes the car to surge forward.

Im driving a 1.4 8v... (n)

This is probably water dripping from a hot evaporator tray.....completely normal.

1) Misalignment of glove box

There is a certain amount of adjustment that can be made via the bracket (llosen & re-position) but thats about it,as good as it gets.

2) Misalignment of window control panel
The window control panel seems from the driver side seems to be popping out.

Carefully file the door panel opening on the nearest side, this will allow the switchbank to sit better & not be compressed where it pushes up at the front. If this doesn't work(it will if filled correctly & in correct place),needs door panel.

3) sizzling sound like water evaporating off a hot surface coming form undercarriage.

sounds like the catalyst cooling down to me?

4) fogging foglights
The problem keep coming back , the dealer cannot fixed it.

smeart grease around the terminal covering at back of light.

6) gear problem - only happend once so far.
when i change gear , the rev shoots up to 3500 rpm - 4000 rpm and causes the car to surge forward.

wouldn't be too worried if it only happened once but ask to see if a ecu software update is available.

You hate a car becaue of a few trim issues?...end of the day like it or not its a mass produced car built to a budget,no more no less!

Thanks for your quick reponse.. :worship:

the issues which has been posted are those that could not be solved ..

I visit the dealer on an average once every month .. (one good advantage of living on a small island) :D

Mass produce cars + lousy technical support = frustration.

maybe hate is too strong a word...

I have these 2, i didnt really see them as a fault or defect, its italian, its cheap so poor build is expected! Just close the glove box a bit harder, it works for me!

hmmm... its not eactly cheap over at my side of the world..

the car cost me approx 20,000 pounds due to taxes...

Few little issues with mine but nothing serious - I'm very happy overall :D All I will say that my local dealer closing down was a blessing. My main problem at the moment is the sqeaking brakes at low speeds. The neighbours have actually complained about it  Fair enough as I leave for work early!! Also I am unimpressed with the ride quality - seems to thud over the smallest bumps

My journey to work is 35 miles each way on A-roads and motorways. I normally cruise at 60mph but traffic often reduces this to 45. I am not a liar! The secret of achieving such high figures is keeping in the highest gear possible when driving on the flat or downhill. It is possible to chug along at 1200rpm quite smoothly, changing down for uphill gradients to increase the revs to 1750rpm!

I don't always drive like this. One of my previous Puntos was the Mk I GT turbo (petrol) which had similar torque but 136BHP. This one is not quite so much fun, but it is no slouch. I believe the car is still available with the variable geometry turbo (90BHP) in other countries.
Hi,

I have a 1.3 90 BHP 6 speed manual. I don't think anyone would expect a 1.25 diesel engine pulling one ton weight of Grande Punto to make rapid progress until the turbocharger gets spinning! Pulling out onto a main road can be a little embarrassing at times. However, the fuel economy, torque, silence at speed and ability to overtake offset this.

I'm not going to make recommendations. Mine is in the garage - probably having the third steering rack fitted.

Mike

I have searched and searched for the rear doors not opening from the outside issue on this forum and my poor search skills have returned nothing to me apart from people mentioning they have the issue.

Does FIAT just replace the door opening mechanisms or fix what's there?

My doors were not so easy, but not hard to open when I first got the Punto a few weeks ago. But now, the left rear passenger door won't open at all from the outside and the right passenger door is bloody difficult to open.

I'm getting sick of explaining to passengers that it is not locked.

I bought an Active Sport on the launch weekend in 06, received the car a few weeks later and set off home. About 2 miles from home stopped at a traffic light the engine kept dropping its revs, ignored it and carried on. About a mile from home the "check engine" warning came on and the engine lost all power. Engine then refused to start until about the fifth attempt then had to suffer as it made a slow painful crawl home. Called the AA out and had it towed back to the garage, I did make sure that the AA truck had all its flashing lights on as we pulled into the Fiat Dealership (We were lit up like the enterprise).

Turned out the engine wasn't getting enough air and the ECU cut power to stop any damage being caused. I only had the thing 45 minutes and was handing it back!

........................and?,what happened then.

They fixed the problem and i picked it up a week later, had my fingers crossed everytime I started the engine for the next few weeks. Never had a problem since.

To be honest I wasn't that bothered it broke down, its mechanical, things go wrong. What really annoyed me was the lack of valeting when I picked it up first time.
