hi guys got my new gp sporting on thurs...since then everythins been fine. but a few days ago i started to notice that the steering wasnt as light as it has been when i first got it (with the city button on) i turned it off and cudnt feel a difference at all in the lightness. and then i sort of dry steered 2 the right and honestly..i thought there was no power steering there! any one else hav these sort of problems or heard of them? or is it just me? cheers jskn

best thing you can do is take it back to the dealer and get them to look at it, could be the power steering pump.
Have you checked the fluid level???
Let the proffesionals take a look, cos steering is a major thing:D

cheers 4 the quick reply...i will hava look at the fluid levels acutally good point. but i can defo tell that it wasnt as light as it has been. thats for sure.

Mine steers light but I had one day it steered really very light (no city) the next day it was normal again and never had it anymore. Also very weird.

The Fiat CITY DUAL DRIVE POWER STEERING system has no pump at all, it's got an electric motor. Even Punto mk2s used this system so it's no use searching for a fluid reservoir. It's a dealer thing.

right ok...well i just read the manual and it says if you do some manuover with lots of steering then the system will like temorarily turn off or something to prevent over heating. hopefully thats the case. but im nt too sure. ill just take it in and see if thers any real problem .

As the PAS is an EPS system it has an ECU which will store falut codes. Fiat will be able to plug it into the diagnosis machine and tell you what's up.

cheers eds that sounds good. well iv just gone out hada bit of a ride and everything seemed fine...so im nt sure.. u reckon best to take it out to be on the safe side?

When you press the city button the steering should feel extremly light - I find with mine it it only good for parking as it is just too sensitive in this mode - if this is not the case you should contact your dealer maybe.

i thought the city steering only worked upto 5mph, even the light still shows up on the dash the city is actually de-activated until you get to 5mph again... a safety thing

steering gets more progressive (heavier) faster you go(thinks its fully off around 28mph)...personally I dont think the city steering is as light as the older (188) punto but more noticable than the stilo....which I can hardly notice at all:confused:

if you pull off the cover at the right hand side of your colom by puting your hand inside the coin holder and puling down and out you can see the motor on the side of the colom also the fuse box and diagnostics plug are in their

the ecu controling it does take speed signals from the can net in the car the same signal the dash picks up for the speedo so it does change acording to speed but it is never off completelyalso their is a torque meter in the rack to mesure how much force you are puting in

the most comon fault with this system is the motors failing this should be replaced under waranty if their is a problem so best to let the dealer have a look
