General 1.4 16v Starjet

Hi Guys, nice to meet you all!! :)

I got my new 1.4 16v Dynamic Sports on Friday and Im very happy with it. My only real concern is with the engine. I seem to find it very slugish!! Im not pushing it too hard as its brand new but it dosnt feel very responsive at all. Also only getting an average mpg of 35.1mpg, over a mixed 200miles. The garrage said that it would improve once it has been run, I just bloody hope it dose! ;)

Anyone else noticed this or am I just used to more powerful cars?
Thanks

with ur engine being new...its not loosened up yet so mpg will increase. i was told not the give it a hard time for the first 1,000mile, and don't rev high. about 4,000rpm max because u run a high chance of cracking ur piston rings or piston. my gp is 6 months old and has done 12500miles:eek: and if u sunday drive everywhere, u would get 38mpg easy. but with me being 21, and modded the engine a bit i don't hang around long. imm gettin 28mpg average:cry: . its worth it though.

I'm getting arround 26 mpg and I think it is poor but it is maybe because of traffic, average speed is less then 20 km/h.

About performace, just wait little bit and engine will loosen up, and remember you must push it at more then 4000 rpm if you want to feel difference.

In my honest opinion, the 1.4 16v sporting engine is absolote ****e.

Mine just ticked over 2030 miles, it idles like a bang of bolts and to be fair, I dont often boot it, max rpm ive been at is 5500 but it just seems so useless.

(anyone else have an issue with there idle as in, when its ticking over you think it sounds like a diesel, mine certainly dosent sound smooth like a petrol should be?! it could just be me being fussy... compared my idle to any similar type DOHC 16v engines and it just sounds rough)

Ive always run BP ultimate or shell v-power for purity and this car does lack power compared to my old mk4 polo 16v (that had cams/bmc/straight through 4-2-1 with chip, possible 120-130 bhp never been tested) which is uderstandable

my mates standard MG-ZR feels like it has alot more than my car.

When my airbag system failed, that told me they had to replace the ECU (Which now groans permanently) maybe that has something to do with it?

any suggestions? or is this a charactaristic of this engine?

Ive had my new GP for 4 days and its already had to go back to the garrage to have all delivery scratched painted out.. If I had read this forum before I bought the car I wouldnt!

The car is meant to have 95bhp and have a 1-62mph in 10.9..... well if it still feels the same in a month or so Im going to have it tested! I v?cant belive those figures.

On a happier note, is anyone really happy with there performance out the the 1.4 16v??

nope, its dia... trading mine in for the 130 but I'd like to keep the 16v wheels

i beleive that the engines are rattly because they have mechanical tappets, not hydrallic. or am i just talking ****e ?? ive also thought about trading in for a 1.9d. are they any better?? but its a tractor

I do think calling this car sporting is a bit of a joke it really aint that fast was driving the other day with a few people on board and it really did struggle to overtake people in cars that should have been no problem, it really does need a good few bhp extra, my main qustion is can i fit the turbo that is going to the abath to my 1.4 16v engine through fiat as dont want to damage my warenty?

ive asked this twice before had nobody has wrote back. WE NEED INPUT

even if it was going to invalidate the warranty, i'd still slap a turbo in there.

maybe in a year or so but would not know the best place to for it or if fiat would not do it or how much it would cost, some research needed I think

ill hav a root about. keep u posted i will

your only 21 as you've said in a previous post mate and you'll pay mega bucks adding a turbo would be much cheaper to get a multijet and remap it to 170 bhp and amazing tourqe i'm sure the the 1.9 mj guys with a remap will back this up.

I actually dont think the Starjet is that bad! mine is nice and nippy in town, its quite gutsy actually and it darts about really well, revs cleanly etc and I get 39 to the gallon, it needs to be driven hard but off the line its not too bad at all, ive had my mates rover 214 which is allegedly more powerful, and mines only done 2500 miles.

it does idle loudly though, even though I dont think it has mechanical tappets because its got a version of VVT so you must need hydraulic tappets? however when your in the car and its idling I literally cannot hear mine let alone feel it.

Had my 1.4 16v Sporting since Jan, 3000 miles on it and very happy. For a 1.4 its very nippy. Seems to vary though from day to day, sometimes it can feel sluggish then other times it surprises you by throwing you back in your seat. Very quiet when your in the car, you can barely hear then engine. Quite like the noise it makes when accelerating, little throaty. Getting around 37-38 mpg according to the computer. Lot of city driving though, not had it on the motorway much.

I'm finding the performance of my Starjet even though it's only done 250 miles to be not exactly ground breaking but easily fast enough. I was pretty impressed by the fact (yes I know this was really naughty for numerous reasons) that it managed 100 in 5th without too much sweat. I have found though that it does need the right approach on some of the gradients on the M25 if you want to keep going fast enough to justify staying in the fast lane.

Having a full tank of fuel in this car makes more difference then any other car I've ever driven though!!!
