Anyone else with a Sporting got any tips on best ways to keep the alloys looking good?!

There's no doubt that they look stunning when they're shiny and clean but boy are they a bugger to clean, especially inside the 'forks'. It's taken me the best part of 2 hours to get them back to the same condition as when I picked up the car 2 weeks ago! Can anyone suggest any good cleaning products, tools etc that are non-abrasive and where I can get hold of them?

What's more I was intending to take the wheels off to give them a really thorough clean only to find there's no jack included on this model - I'm hoping it's not been forgotten - can other owners confirm that this should be the case??

That's why I love my standard wheels.:D Anyway, on the sporting you don't get a jack since you got a fix&go kit. This is at least the way in Holland.

Yeah no jack on the sporting cause you have the inflator kit instead....

I've always used wonder wheels for cleaning my alloys. Its the best cleaner on the market but it is acid based. I used to use it on my stilos multispoke alloys as they were a nightmare to clean as well.

Saying that though the last two times ive done the punto ive just used a cloth and soapy water....
Gotta agree though those wheels are pretty awful for cleaning! I knew they would be when i first see pictures of the sporting with them on! but when they are clean they're stunning

go back to dealer you should have jack i use alloy foam cleaner takes 3 minutes then warm water comes up like new

Yes agree, Halfords do a number of good alloy cleaners (Turtlewax), which breakdown the grime and brake dust - making it easier to clean. I also use kitchen towels... seem to give a good polish. Haven't got my GP delivered yet, but the alloys look "fiddly" to clean from the pix. May have to reassess my strategy!

Best buy a cheap hydraulic trolley jack for £25 from Halfords for work at home, the ones get with cars are pretty poor - unless in an emergency - but then would call AA/FIAT assitance - that's what you pay them for!

I use some alloy wheel cleaner I got from halfrauds cost 4.99 a bottle but it pretty much disintergrates brake dust and it just washes off :).
No jack in my Sporting - are you sure you have got one as the manual says you get an inflator kit - these are very common place now with small cars big alloys not enough boot space

I've just cleaned mine with Auto Glym Alloy Cleaner and they've come up gorgeous. I have even treated them to a new coat of Supaguard Alloy Protector - I'm sure this stuff works and keeps the wheels cleaner for longer!

Bad news though - I have a small patch of corrosion on one of my spokes. Already know what the dealer and/or Fiat will say, but I'm gonna ask for a replacement wheel. There's no way I could have damaged it there.

Did the pictures work this time??

Hi, I have found this brush is ace on these wheels. About £7 from Halfords. It reaches right to the back of the wheel too! look at my wheels, cleand them really good yeh?

11072006(005).jpgMeguiars Gold Class Ultra-Safe Wheel Brush

Meguiar's Wheel Spoke Brush has been designed to safely and effectively clean all areas of the wheel, including hard-to-reach crevices.

The flexible bristles bend and adjust to tight areas, while the brush itself has enough freedom of movement to enable cleaning behind the wheel. The safety tip on the end of the brush prevents accidental gauging or marring of your wheel's finish.

'Wonder Wheels' is the dog's ******** for cleaning alloys. It's about £7.50 in Halfords for a 500ml bottle, which comes with a little brush and a container which is very handy. The brush is great for getting at all those awkwards bits. You will not go wrong with this trust me!

(wheres my commision Wonder Wheels?)

I dont trust wonder wheels though its acid based and im wondering whether itll screw my wheels up in time to come....

I used it on my stilo's wheels and it destroyed the wheel bolts, got a new set and it destroyed those too  so i give up with it

Bloody hell! :bang:

I've been using Wonder Wheels for years. No problem on the old stilo as it had centre caps but I wondered why my Punto Sporting wheel nuts kept rusting. I'm on my 3rd free set from the garage and it was my fault all along, lol.

I always use Autoglym Clean Wheels. Spray on, leave for 1 minute and then wipe of with clean warm water.

To finish off, I use a quick spray of Autoglym instant tyre dressing for me tyres! Makes your car look like its just come out of the showroom. :)

Just come across the best alloy wheel cleaner out there, much better than the Autoglym stuff I was using - BMW branded alloy cleaner.

Nicked it off my Dad, who got it free with his new 3-series. Cleans off all marks, is non-acid based and has kept the wheels looking good for ages, even with the amount of rain and muck that's got on the roads at the moment. Particularly recommended to anyone with the Sporting 'fork' style alloys as it cleans up the more shiny, non-coated parts really well.

Hi
I find a brillo pad great for cleaning alloys a new one with the soapy stuff
still in it(y)
Also if the brake dust is really bad a wire brush will shift it(y)
P.S.
don't forget the soap(y)
