went down to my local dealer on wednesday to order the GP with a competitive quote from lloyds tsb carselect and the manager said and i quote " we will not go any lower than the list price simple because we are not making any money on the current price" RUBBISH!

and he also said that lloyds are probably importing foreign cars and claiming them as english, but would lloyds tsb really do scamming?

The reason you can get the car through LTSB so cheap is because this is, presumably, an online deal of some kind. There are none of the usual dealer overheads, like paying lots of staff, ground rent, buildings lease, environmental legislation and so on. The online dealer probably has a few staff who take the orders and that's about it.

This is why the main dealer can't match your deal.

However, I would say that it is complete and utter rubbish that they won't give you any kind of discount whatsoever. You can't expect them to match an online price, but they may be able to come closer than you think.

You need to play the dealers off each other. Make some calls to all the Fiat dealers within a couple of hours driving distance, or even further afield. You already know what you want, so it doesn't matter where it comes from, so long as it works out on balance cheaper, taking into account petrol costs to drive from wherever it comes from when it's ready.

Once you get a good price, ring around some of the others and see what they come up with.

Or you could just place your order with LTSB.

Why do people think dealers make 'a killing' on new cars because they dont...I have seen margins of £400-450 on some new Fiats so why drop the price & cut even deeper into that small profit margin. Its the credit agreement that is often more profitable than the actual car sale which is why they often let you just walk away because they simply cant do a better deal end off!
Out of interest who is checking the car to see if it is ok? fitting number plates/paperwork etc LTSB will be making a profit somewhere so I suggest you read the small print carefully.
