I got a call from my dealer that he has my car. Before I transfer the money I decided to go and pay my dealer a visit and check out the car.

It was very difficult to check for damages since the car was full with dust, what the f..k did they do with my baby?

Anyway, I found out some interesting things. I ordered a GP Dynamic 1.4 16v. In Holland according to the brochure that means; no alloys, 175mm tires and a gearbox with 5+R. But when I checked the tires I found out they were 185mm and the gearbox was a 6+R! I even asked the dealer if he was sure that he was showing my car and he told me he was sure. So either the brochure is wrong or FIAT made a mistake.

Also on the FIAT website it says the rear brakes are disc but I wasn't able to check if this is true. According to the brochure it shouldn't be discbrakes.

I'm very curious if I will find more things that wasn't described in the brochure. :p

I just checked the specs from Fiat Denmark and they are as you describe them (185mm tyres and 6+R gearbox on the 1,4 16V Dynamic) so it must be Fiat Holland(?) who made a mistake when they made the brochure.
Good luck with it (y)

Thanks! What does the specs in Denmark say about the rearbrakes are they discbrakes?

(Fellow Dutchy here) I just received word about my new GP as well (black 1.4 16v Sport). I can go and pick it up this Friday :)

I too have been wondering about 5 or 6 speed, as well as the brakes. It looks like the 1.4 16v engine is indeed linked to a 6-speed gearbox on all versions. The only documentation I got that had it linked to a 5-speed was the dutch "technical specifications" I downloaded from the FIAT.nl website, dated November 2005.

The glossy brochure I got at the dealership as well as the more up-to-date Italian tech-spec document show it as a 6-speed (y)

With regards to the brakes, I used to think only the top 2 diesels had discs at the rear, but both the italian and the danish tech-spec document show the Sport version of the 1.4 16v as having rear discs as well. Drums on the other versions, though... I guess I'll find out on Friday :D

With regards to the brakes, all models except for the top diesels seem to have drums at the back.

I thought so. That means the Dutch FIAT website is wrong. But at least I'm very pleased with the 6+R gearbox and especially because I didn't expect it! :worship:

Also the 185mm tires instead of the 175mm is great since my colleauges were laughing about my future "bicycle wheels". (n)

Herko did you take the WaxOyl treatment?

The 1.4 16v Sporting version here in Greece comes with 6+R gearbox, rear discs and 205/45/R17 tyres apart from other things...........

I'm very pleased with getting a 6-speed gearbox as well, and it looks like discs at the rear for me too (note that I just edited my first reply: looks like discs for the Sport version, drums on the others) :)

I didn't take the WaxOyl treatment, didn't even know it existed before I started reading this forum :)

According to the specs, the rearbrakes are discbrakes on the sport (both 1,9 multijet and 1,4 16V). The only difference between the 2 sport models are the front brakes (they are bigger on the 130bhp multijet). everything else should be the same.
I will find out in a about 3 weeks, whn my local fiat dealer get a 1,4 16V Sport and a 1,9 multijet Sport.

I know this is in danish, but you can look at the danish specs here: http://www.fiat.dk/FIAT_DENMARK/uploads/1006/1074076758/20060309/GrandePunto_specs.pdf

I will probably not get rear discbrakes because I have the Dynamic 1.4 16v without "sport(ing)" in the name.

@Herko, WaxOyl costs Euro 175,- and especially on metallic black it's very good to have. After the treatment it wil stay showroom shining for a guaranteed 3 years so you don't need to wax the car. Also it protects against bird poop, insects and small scratches.

Well, it looks like my dealership isn't an official WaxOyl dealer, perhaps yours is. But I found out there is an independent WaxOyl dealer just down the road from the FIAT dealership...

BTW, what color interior did you get on your Active? I got the Inox Orange on my Sport (which looks like crap in the color configurator on the FIAT website, but looks ace in real life).

Active? You mean Dynamic! :D I have the denim/black interior and i saw it today..very nice!:)

Well I picked up my GP today but sadly I have to say I found 4 damages in the paintwork. Also on the front where the bonnet meets the bumper there is more space between the left side than the right side so I hope they can lift the bumper on the left side a bit up so it is the same as the right side.

3 spots I already discussed with my dealer but the 4th one I found out later. The bumper I discussed with my dealer when I checked the car last Monday but he said there was no difference between the right and left side. In that moment it was difficult to really see it because the car was full with protection plastic.

I have an appointment for next Wednesday at the dealer. He will bring my car to a body repair shop to fix those damaged points(I still have to tell him about the 4th point I found). The bumper I still have to discuss with him.

It's too bad because I cannot make myself feel happy with the fact I have a new car. I just hope everything will be solved. :(

Sorry to hear about the damage :(, but still congratulations on your new car :)

Is the damage similar to the paint problems reported by others on this forum, or do you think it's the result of uncareful transport/handling?

The damage under the bonnet and the one above the rear left wheel are probably damages that happend at the FIAT factory. It looks like they lift the body after the paintjob that causes this damages. The ones under the bonnet looks like resting points where they let the bonnet dry after the paintjob.

Another damage between the rear bumper and body looks like transport damage and I have the idea they already tried to cover it up but it just needs a little black paint to cover it.

The bumper being too low on one side is not a damage but it would look nicer if it's a little bit higher.

Remarkable is the fact that the paint chip above the rear left wheel where the body meets the bumper is similair to the car of Robin what makes me think that there should be more cars with these problems. I think it even shows some metal where this paint chip is but my dealer said it will not rust so fast because the body is galvanised.

My dealer told me that almost every new car has some small damages or parts that are not really straight if you take a vey good look. At least the overall paint on the body is perfect without any scratches or whatsoever. Ofcourse these scratches and little dents will come in the future ;)

Be sure to check your GP on the points I mentioned.

Are you going to pick it up today Herko?

Yeah, I'm going to pick it up this afternoon. They didn't get the registration done yet, so they're going to Nieuwegein now to pick it up in person (or so I was told yesterday). They'll give me a call when it's ready. Should be somewhere between 2 and 3. Waiting is hell :)

Don't worry, I will give it a good look. If it all looks good, I'll get the WaxOyl treatment done on Monday. The guy I called said it would be 120 euros + tax. Can I ask what you paid for it?

120 Euros is very cheap. I paid 175 Euros and that is the normal price. Even at the local washstation they ask 169 Euros. Are you sure it's the 100+ Waxoyl?

Good luck with the pick-up and let us know how it went!

Grmbl... just got a call that everything's ready except for the license plates... Those are delayed in Amsterdam with the guy that picked them up. Looks like a few more hours of waiting... :(
