What are the prices like for buying a GP? I know that most dealers sell you a car for less than the listed price, so what kind of money have you guys been getting off your GPs?

I'm currently considering getting a 1.3 90BHP GP 5dr but £10,790 is just too mutch for me at present

Unfortunately they are all listed on Broadspeed with a red dot against them (factory order only), so if you want one quickly and don't mind an ex-demo model there are three currently listed on the http://www.autotrader.co.uk/ site for around £10000 (it may be possible to reduce the price further with haggling).

I doubt there will be much discount around at the minute, mainly because the model is new and by all accounts is selling well at its current prices, you may just have to sit tight for a while longer yet

Yeah i always thought you wouldnt be able to get much of a discount as its quite new. But im also hearing everywhere that fiat dealers will knock tons off because they cant really afford to loose a sale etc etc.

Plus my mate bought a Citroen C4 Coupé 1.6 16v VTR+ Brand new and he got it for £7000! Hes had it about 5 weeks i think. Had a whole of 6 miles on the clock when it arrived at his and its an 06 Plate. The 1.6 VTR+ is listed as £14,095. So how the hell did he get it for £7000! Thats what i wanna know...

He is fibbing. There is no way you would get that car brand new for £7k. That might be the upgrade price after trade-in presuming he had a trade-in.

Theres have been 2 GPs on ebay, both of which havent even met their reserve and have both ended for around £6k.

You could wait a few weeks until one comes on ebay with no reserve or a low reserve.

There are discounts available from Fiat dealers, without a doubt. I saved 6.5% on mine through being a member of the CSMA. More than one dealer I approached when shopping around seemed to think that in fact they could sell the car for even less, if it meant they got my business. And that was 2 months ago when the official line was that the principal of transparent pricing meant that the price you see is the price you pay.

Nonsense. Don't expect much, as the cars genuinely are very good value, but discounts are available to those who ask. Make it clear that you will buy a car immediately if you hear the right figure being mentioned, and be prepared to put down that deposit right away.

Also, another way to save money if you don't want to pay in full up front, is to haggle the finance down. I've heard of deals on Fiat HP of around 3%, They'll tell you that they'll charge more, but this again is nonsense. If you don't ask, you don't get. At first I was told that I would not get low rate finance because I had a discount lined up. The next dealer I went to said they would commit to both the discount and the low rate finance. I went back to the original dealer, told them this and they said they would do the same, on the spot.

I bought exactly the car you are looking at in crossover black with front fogs

The dealers will tell you that they get next to nothing for selling the car itself they make money on the extras

If you can also look at the extras the dealers try to flog you as well. The protection pack, gap insurance etc. They get commision on these and if you take them often you can get a discount of more than these extras cost!

For example when I orderd mine I didn't want any of that crap but by taking the protection pack and gap insurance (~£700) I got a discount of over £1000 i reckon that there might have been another couple of hunded there too if I had held out a bit longer, but I had the kids with me and I heard the sound of paint being scratched:eek:

Use that as a negotiation tactic: "Sir, if you don't agree to a lower price... well... I have the kids with me and I heard the sound of paint being scratched" :D

Here in Holland I got a discount of Euro 500,- and the Mp3 player option for free. So a total of Euro 600,-. In Holland a discount between 3 an 8% of the Netto Brochure price is considerd a good discount. I got 6% so not bad!

Agreed ;)

There is no way a new or pre-registered C4 VTR+ would be sold at a discount of £7,000.

I'd go to broadspeed, get a print-out of the price and take it to your friendly Fiat dealer; ask them how close they can get to make it worth your while to give them the business. You might not get the full discount, but I suspect they will get close. Also, don't forget broadspeed finds UK cars - they do deals with some of the bigger groups so if you give them a call they will put you in touch with their stealer who can likely advise a real delivery time; the ones on the web site are just rough guides.

Anyone who buys a Fiat ex-demo for more than a new broadspeed one needs a straight jacket :D

Can anyone tell me what this CSMA membership is and who is eligible?!

CSMA - Civil Service Motoring Association

You have to be a current or ex civil servant to join. It's now free though and you can get their magazine (every 5 weeks or so) for a tenner a year. It's not bad as there are some nice benefits.

6.5 % discount doesn't apply to the Sporting models though.

Sorry, should have explained what CSMA was.

It's worth it just for the excellent breakdown cover alone. There are some MASSIVE discounts available, particularly through Fiat with CSMA - the big ones are only on the ones that people don't want (Stilo, Doblo, Croma etc) but 6.5% is not to be sniffed at.

Oh, and you don't have to be a civil servant if a member of your family is. My Dad was in the civil service, and as a member of his family I am allowed to join, even though I work for a private company.

I know people who work for Fiat get 3 vouchers per year for themselves, friends & family. The saving on the punto is currently 14%
