General First Grande punto in uk!

The croma has decent engines but i still wouldnt buy one.... im not a fan of the styling on the new punto. Maybe a decent buy after 18 months/ 2 years though.

I wish people would stop calling them "fiats new supermini" they aren't a super mini, they're bigger than the punto and they call that a supermini. It really annoy's me when journo's make up buzzwords and use them constantly even when it's totally irrelevant. The vw lupo is a supermini, as is that axiam thing with the bike engine. not a five door hatchback based on the vw golf. thats a hatchback surprisingly.

Shes absolutely gorgeous!!!!

There are several cars around on the road at the moment, especially around Slough, they are the press cars. First impressions from the Fiat Intro Training Course is that the build quality is really good, panel fit is excellent and the whole car is very solid. The doors have a nice deep clunk when they close, its a very nice sound that we havent heard on fiats. The cabin trims are bright and roomy and the dash is clear and looks great. The seats are very comfy and the steering wheel is height and reach adjustable. Passenger airbag is switched off via the on board computer so no problems with exclusion switches on this Punto. Vented discs on the front of all but 1.2 models. Engines available at launch are Petrol 1.2 8v, Petrol 1.4 8v (variable valve timing to improve economy), 1.3 Multijet 16v 75bhp, 1.3 Multijet 16v 90bhp, and 1.9 Multijet 8v 120bhp.
A 130 bhp 1.9 diesel will be on its way soon and a 1.6 16v TURBO Petrol 180bhp will be on its way soon as well.

All the DETs and Techs are very impressed with her and its very nice to be enthusiastic again about a Fiat product. Ours is sitting in the showroom, and every one that has seen her has fallen in love with her.
WE HAVE A WINNER:D :D :D :D :D :D (y) (y) (y)

I'm going to see it tomorrow at the fiat dealer in basingstoke :)

the dealer guy said to me he's gonna have the prices and specs on them next week, he said over the phone that they can actually take orders on them now but the proper launch is the 11th Feb as that link says :D

So can the techies tell us why the 1.4 8v exists and the 1.2 16v doesn't? Emissions? Unable to meet Euro specs?

1.4 has variable valve timing so better(as you mentioned)emissions & fuel consumption, also bit more lower down grunt but not as free reving as the 16v.

as you can tell from the sig i had my heart set on one for next year, the sporty mad turbo'd bad boy in black with attitude and fire

then i drove the new civic at the weekend

i'm not so sure anymore, theres a battle raging now, the passion of what could be the greatest hot hatch of all, which has all the baggage of past italian champs on it, vs the utter utter reliablity, competence and sheer awesome breadth of talent of the japanese champ

this next year saving the pennies driving the minicab better be worth it...

it was "only" the top spec petrol EX version, fully loaded (£16000) 18's, sat nav, rear facing camera, oodles of extras and so on, but damn what a fine and competant machine, as you would expect from honda, the grande punto still has it for me, but a years wait....and the expectation? who knows
