Right, 1.9 diesel disconnected the starter to change gearboxes, connect it again now doesn't start, no click nothing. It started before, checked all the cables nothing loose broke ect fully charged battery and yes all lights are bright, glow plug light too, all windows and sunroof work as they should..... but nothing from the bloody starter!!

Has it for some stupid reason packed up just loosening 3 10mm bolts too get it away from the back of the gearbox casing, honest to christ.

How have you connected the heavy cables?

There should be a spacer.. commonly misplaced

In the meantime:

Try a jumplead earth.. in case the earth strap has failed ;)

If you still struggle :
You can always try the starter on the ground.. foot on it Pos. jumplead to copper terminal
Neg. Jumplead tapped against the body of starter

Every things connected I didn't take any spacer off but I'll check the earth.

Jim, I'll do that shortly but having to take off the egr to get to it is a bloody pain unless I can use the main red cable.

Got the starter off what a bugger that is on an 06 1.9 diesel..... checked it works fine but have a feeling when it's back in it won't. As I said all lights inc glow plug but won't even turn so if it's still the same...

Common problem on all puntos is the engine earth cable which usually bolts to the front of the gearbox, breaks or fractures and then the car seems fine but the starter won’t work. The best way to test for this is to put a jumper cable between the battery ground and a metal part of the engine block then see if it starts, you need to make sure if using a jumper cable you get a really good connection between the cable and what ever you connect it to

I see, it looked clean enough as I unbolted it so the reason you say for this starter problem could be the earth.
I guess the only reason for this could be the earth point the "new" one.

Did you reconnect the thin lead with the large diameter ring tag on it?
There is no obvous place for it to go. It fits over the insulator for the big bolt on terminal. It often falls of on it own so people don't even notice it was disconnected.
If not that, check the jumbo fuse on the battery teminal.

Do use a multimetre and test the lines, both 12V the continuous one and the one that gets 12V when you turn the key, and also mesure and check the ground line.

It was the bloody earth cake on the box I forgot to bolt on, honest to christ : rollseyes:
