I've got an 06 Punto and lost the 1 3 button fob I had, a locksmith was out the other day and "programmed" a new one but after doing it it wouldn't work from the fob ie opening and closing, started it ok but that's it.

The original I had worked fine but not the new one, I specifically asked before he came if he could do it "yes no problem it'll work from the fob".
When he realised it wouldn't he said "did the last key work" I said yes he then said it must be the car or a fuse, I said I wasn't a problem before.
I then said do I still need to pay the price for a fob that's fully working, he said yes as I've still programmed it and said if it wasn't it wouldn't start it.

I'm not impressed at all, have I been ripped off.

When I say that what I mean is did he know he couldn't programme it but said he could just to get the money/ job.

Yes you have had very bad service.
If you paid by bank card ask your bank for a charge back.

There may be two parts to programming a new remote key especially with older cars.

1 programming the car to recognise the electronic chip in the key and so turn imobiliser off allowing the car to start.

2 programming the remote fob to operate the door locks

Some more modern cars can do steps one and two together but I think(Not 100% sure)your car is the two step process.

What you were told about it starts car so it's fine sounds rubbish.
You paid for a key that starts car with remote locking/unlocking.
You didn't get what you paid for.

Good luck

I paid cash so that's my refund buggered, I got this from him. I already told him the original worked fine.

"Well if there is a problem with the car wiring , module , receiver in the roof we cant do anything about that. the key programmed to your car no issues with the key sending a signal checked the programming car said it was programmed I showed you that"

He finally said..

"Well I checked everything done the programming multiple times. There is something wrong with the car"

I take with only 1 reply nobody knows here either......

This joker says to try the receiver in the roof lining as it might faulty. i asked if there was a way i can check it he said no just buy a new one from the stealer.

He also said because the car's been sitting for a month damp/rain has maybe got into it did something to the wiring. So does mean you cant leave in the rain all the time or goes faulty..... ******

He said that it's not the key as it wouldn't let him programme it if it was.....i still say he's a pi55 artist/conman.

Did he give you a receipt at all, an does this place have any reviews on Google etc.. I'd check, you may find you might not be the only one unfortunately. If his workmanship is shoddy, maybe ask friends, family etc.. if they've used a decent local car locksmith locally. Maybe then contact them for a 2nd opinion?

chances are it was a person rather than a company

something I have noticed over the last couple of years [especially on facebook marketplace] is that there are hundreds of ads for keys and key programming, I have made enquiries with a couple of them in the past as we have two cars here that only have one key [my GP and the Mrs Pug 308], replies have been sketchy and vague, so were not followed up.

as everything, its buyer beware, try and go a for a company, and if you do see if it has any reviews.
